First off, my t-5 is getting a little noisy (rattles and whines), and my center console is starting to get real hot. Today I took it for about an hour or so drive at about 75mph and the console was real hot and once I stopped at a light off an exit ramp the car died and took a minute to fire it back up. Once started it would barely run and get us to the hospital. (taking my brother to see his wife) I went in the hospital for about 30-45 minutes and then went back out and it fired up fine, I stopped and got some coolant and it was about 1/2 gallon low at most and then ran an hour or so fine all the way home except for the console was really hot once again. My temp guage read about 150-160* but could be off since it has factory guages. I have Bassani equal length headers, no cats w/ IMCO mufflers and tail pipes for exhaust, could my exhaust be heating up the floor and console like that or do you all think it may be the tranny getting hot? I need some suggestions as I sure ain't gonna crawl under and find out the painfull way:D

And for the tranny problem, does anyone know what it costs on average to have a t-5 rebuilt? I have called a few shops and no one will shoot me a price, not even a worst case scenerio price, they all say "bring it in and I'll tear it apart" Thanks in advance everyone.

I have that same problem also, runs fine, then the floor gets hot and it runs like crap and i let it cool down for 10 minutes, then it fires back up fine. Now i noticed my fuel pump is louder than normal so it could have gotten to hot and died. I also checked my ignition modual because that can give similar symptoms. It runs fine now it only does it once in a while. Now for a t-5 rebuilt most shops will charge $1200 to $1600 for a rebuild. Your paying mostly for labor so it might be easyer to just buy a new tranny, a new tranny is 800 to 2500, depending on if its a regular t-5 tremmic version or a t-56. For a tranny swap a shop quoted me $300 for just that but I just did it myself.

dont waste the money on a t5 rebuild. sell it to someone as a rebuildable core for $100, and put the $1200+ you were gonna spend on the rebuild towards buying a new tremec. i shopped around and got my TKO new a few years ago for $1400. others were listing them as high as $1800. I see they are slightly higher now though, but worth every penny compared to a rebuilt t5. when its rebuilt, its still a t5 that will grenade again later anyway.

hot floors and crappy running when hot, and better running after it cools off can also be a sign of bad converters, but you said you dont have any anyway. maybe your trans is going out because its low on fluid. ever check it? that could be the trans problem, but not the engine problem.

As for the T5 whinning, could be low on fluid. I would check it, add, and see if you still continue to have the whine.

I'm planning on getting a TKO or have my last T5 rebuilt to G-Force. Good luck :nice:

I had some of those same issues hot floor , vibration and t5 noise ( mainly in 5th gear) this past weekend I drained fluid chaged rear seal in the t5 and found out I had a badly warped yoke. Changed the yoke and changed to lucas semi synthetic fluid and so far no noises , no leaks and no vibrations , also console is much cooler. knock on wood I think I was lucky and the rear bushing seems to be ok .

Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do. I dont have the money now to buy a new one. Thats why I was hoping a rebuild would be cheaper. I checked the fluid about 2-3 months ago shortly after it started making noises and it only took a little over half a quart to top it off so it isn't like it was running too low. Now another question, how do I drain all the fluid in the tranny to put fresh fluid in without pulling it all the way out? Thanks again.

One more thing, while driving, I get this loud clanking noise coming from under the car. It seem to get worse at higher speeds. I dont think that is actually in the tranny as it runs and shifts smoothe other than the small noises and whining. Do you all think the loud clank could be the tranny support or bushings on it? Once again, thanks.:D

You will NOT have to pull the T5 out at all.

1. Raise the car, place on jackstands
2. Place a drain pan under T5 housing below drain plug.
3. Remove the drain plug and allow the T5 fluid to drain out.
4. Once the T5 has drained, install the drain plug.
5. Remove the filler plug, and fill the t5 to the proper level of fluid required.
6. Reinstall the filler plug once you are finished.
7. Remove the jackstangd and carefully lower the Stang.

Good luck. :nice:

Try this.

Don't know if this will help but there is a very well know shop here in the dallas Texas area, and the guy only charges $500.00 to rebuild t-5's(That includes pulling it and re-installing it in the car, I believe- but don't quote me on that) and he is great. I know about being strapped with cash if u need the info PM me as I can get it for you. You could also call him for any of your tranny questions.
