Hi
Saturday on the way to Tri-state Dragway, getting on I-75 I blew 3rd gear in my '94 vert. tranny. Talked to Paul and Tom at
Paul's Automotive Engineering and they suggested a TKO 600, I now have 526rwhp.

My question is should I get the .82 5th gear or the .64 5th gear. What is the RPM difference... if there only is 200 or so RPM ?? difference, I would perfer the higher rpm/response, if that is true. I think I was around 2200 or 2300 rpm in 5th around 60mph.

Opnions:

Mine should be ariving today. I went with the .64 5th gear. The .82 gear is more for road racing and I wouldn't go with that if you do a lot of interstate driving. I don't know what the RPM difference would be, but I would guess it's halfway between your current 4th and 5th gear.

You could go with a T56 and get both gears.

Maybe I need one more ride in the mustang.. It still moves but something is going clunky-clunky clunk.. I could write the rpm down and try to figure it out.

Based on a speed/rpm calculator I found by searching google, the .82 gear should put you around 2500RPM's at 60MPH. The .64 gear should be just under 2K at 60mph.

Since we are on the topic of Tremec Trannys, how loud is the TKO 600? How about the 500 / 3550? My T-5 should be blowing sometime soon but I dont want a loud tranny.

My 600 is also nice and quiet. I had vibes at 80mph+ so i gotta figure that out when the car is back together.

For the guys that already installed it, with no vibes, what exactly did u do for install? Just wanna make sure im not overlooking anything.

Hi

I havent had my car back together to try anything. Its all in pieces. Check that thread above on the corral and compare your install with some of the ideas there. Did u index the bell? Get the correct height at the mount? Did u try rotating the driveshaft?

Bump, I just got off the phone with Pro-Motion and they recommended the TKO500 over the 600 for me because they said most cars dont have enough power for the 600's first gear. What do you guys think?

Well the 600 does have a lower first gear than the 500. I went with the 500 because it was almost the same gear ratios as my T-5 and i like thost just fine.

I was running out of gear in the 1/4 with the stock T5, would it be better for me to get the 600 then? Are the overdrives the same? I do alot of highway miles.

crossmember modification???

When you look at what's required to install a tko 500 or 600 in a 94 or 95 gt it says slight crossmember modification. what's it talking about? and I have no Idea what I have to do with the driveshaft to make it the tko fit? supposedly add a spacer that's a certain thickness and I think some longer bolts on the u-joint or somewhere on the driveshaft. Can anyone who has installed the tko already put out exactly what is intailed in the installation so I would feel better about buying one myself?

Well the 4th gear is still a 1 to 1 ratio so it wouldnt really help you at the top end of the quarter. The overdrive in the 600 is slightly lower (.64) than the 500 (.68) however so it would give you very slightly lower rpms on the freeway.
