My friends dad is an automotive teacher at a local college, they had an 01 TA put down 320 to the wheels by just hacking off the muffler

that's the norm with a catback.

I personally hate Fbody's. They are wickedly quick. Back in high school, my best friend ran 11.79, NA with stock heads, and cam. Made me want to sale my car and buy one. But after spending time in them, I did not like the way they drive, where more prone to rattles, and had the table top dashboard to look over.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'd take your car over a TA anyday of the week. But if you guys do line it up, get it on camera!

So basically what everyone is saying you need to go F/I or hit her with a 100 shot. I will just be happy to run in the high 12s when the cams and LTs are put on.

With you being auto, I wouldn't think for a second about throwing a higher stall converter in your GT.

On average, a better converter drops 3-5 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Next step would be long tubes. I'd cut your current mid-pipe and have it welded back up to fit the new long tubes, it's what I did on my Notch.

Also, you'd be surprised how much weight you'd shave off with a set of big-n-littles on your car if you are going for 1/4 times.

I've seen in several apps where the skinny fronts are good for a tenth in the 1/4. I've also seen two fold improvements by going to a full boot, inner-tubed and screwed ET Drags has made a huge improvement at the track.

Of course, LS-7 heads, cam and full exhaust on the Batmobile and you'd be left scratching your head.

what's the power/torque band difference between the LS1's and LT1's? Aren't LT1's pretty fair game to PI GT's?

LT1s are a driver's race with a PI engine. Again, they respond better to mods due to the larger displacement.

Just go out and race him. if he wins, mod the car some more, but simply a bolt on car driven by a good driver is a mid 12 second car. I am not going to get into LS1's and how they react to mods. GL

So long as you've got the driver mod, you should have em.

I don’t know if “beast” is the word I’d use. A mid/low-13 second car isn’t all that fast now a days when you consider some V6 4-door luxury sedans are running similar times. They’re quick, but not fast. At least not stock.

I would race him as you are right now. Most LS1 cars bounce rev limiters and the owners can't drive. When I was 19 I beat a cammed/intaked LS1 SS Camaro with my 1992 Mustang GT that was stock besides Flowmaster weld-in mufflers, a BBK CAI. I still had stock 3.08's, stock catted H-pipe and a stock T5 trans/clutch.

If you can't take him straight up driver for driver, just get 4.10's if you are an automatic and 3.73's if you are a stick car and small hit of Nitrous and you'll be fine.

Are you basing this data you talk about off your experience or is it a known fact that can be substantiated with facts? Because the way I see it, it goes both ways. I have seen just as many bad drivers in an F-Body and in a Mustang. This weekend at Richmond Dragway which is close to sea level, I was watching an 04 Mach 1 and 04 Cobra run nothing mid 14's, yet one of our friends ran her bone stock M6 WS6 to mid 13's for her first time out there.

Like I said bad drivers can be found in all cars, not just F-Body's.
