i'm wondering if any of you guys are running or were running a stock trans (manual), with a stroked motor. i'm building up a 347, and am wondering if my trans is gonna be up to the task for the first couple months. this is a daily drivin summer car for 5 months or so, and its not gonna see alot of track use (maybe a couple runs next summer) i'm not building this as a track car i just want a stroked motor so i can have a quick car for the street to have fun with, so i am not going to crazy with making this a high HP car. i am planning on doing the trans later on in the summer but i don't wanna be worried about the trans blowing up when i get on it a bit, so should i worry about doing the trans first or let it go till later on in the summer........... any input would be appreciated, also when i start looking for a trans do any of you have any suggestions on which i should go with

BTW my car is a 88 GT 5 spd

Stock T5 should hold up if you don't abuse it (speed shift, dump the clutch at 4000+ RPM or run slicks), assuming it is in good condition to begin with of course.

If you willing to spent the money, a Tremec TKO would be more than enough trany from the way you describe the intended use. Now that the new TKO 500 and TKO 600 are out, the old TKO's are going a lot cheaper too.

I would recomend prob a Tremec 3550 personally. They are easier to install from what i have heard and will be able to take the power. I have also heard really good thing about the tremec TKO 500 and 600's.

Aso for your stock trans. It won't hold up for long. The T5 can barely handle a stock 302 especially the older(pre 1990) ones that have a lower rating then the newer ones.

I have a stock t-5 behind my moter, the trans has over 125,000 miles on it and all it has had done is a new clutch, steel bearing retainer. I have had it to the strip for about 15 total runs on drag radials. I still have my fingers crossed every time I bang the gears.
