i needed to remove my radiator on my 86 and after i put the same radiator back in . now the lines are spewing trans fluid out of the fittings yep there tight. i can tighten up the fittings and i can still move the lines in and out about one inch still. never leaked before i took out the radiator. went to a ford dealer today to see if i missed something a seal or something according to them there is no seal? there pic shows there are double flared ends on the lines mine don't have flares that i can see any way. on the large nut there is a piece of plastic sleve or something like that. make sense to anyone ? this is my only car i have. need it to get around. oh now the trans is what seems like it's slipping on and out of gear while i'm driving it.need to wait till the revs come down then it will catch. shift manualy helps some. i have only put on 4 miles tops on the car after this happened. it was a qt. low on fluid put in some fluid to the fill line now have not driven it after adding fluid. it seems like it wants to down shift into 2 nd a lot. i have only had this car about 3-4 weeks now. oh also cant get the idle lower than 2.250 rpm thats with the idle screw all the way out. same with the fast idle cam screw. sure hope some one can help with this. it is a 2.3 engine but seems like there is very little use in that fourm.

yip, theres supposed to be a flare fitting on the end of the line that seats in the radiator fitting when you tighten it down. ifyou have a plastic sleeve on yours, it sounds like someone rigged it before, or it had a compression fitting on it. you can replace the lines or go a cheaper way. the cheaper way is to go cut off the front 5" or so of the lines on a junkyard car and splice them onto your lines with either a compression fitting or just some rubber hose and clamps. dont keep driving it like that, you will burn up the trans. if its the only car you have, unplug the lines from the radiator and connect them together with rubber hose and clamps. this will let you drive it enough to get to a junkyard and get the parts, just dont keep driving it like this indefinately as it wont let the transmission fluid cool off.

thanks for the answer . i just might tie the lines together head to auto parts store. i might find some brake line with the same size cut it in half and i have two pieces . or if i can get a trans cooler cheep i might go that route. now if i can get the idle down thats not helping the trans any or converter. if its not shot all ready . gosh i hope not.

It was shifting bad because of the low fluid.
If you only drove it 4 miles, your trans should be fine.
Get it fixed and re-check your level, and you should be fine.

Cleaning your IAC and throttle body of carbon should settle the idle down.

lx302 thanks. it was shifting a bit funny before it sprung a leak. think the vacuum mogulator is bad it was shifting when you had to let up on the gas then it would shift up good but it would down shift when it slowed down just a few mph. . just got back from parts store they have some fittings that should work. now befor i went to the store 1 mi. away.i pulled a plug a from the carb just for the heck of it .it will idle down a bit. now it will up shift as it should. but when the idle goes way up thats when the trans goes bunkers and acts up soon as the idle comes down trans acts almost normal but when the idle starts to wander up high theres when it acts up again. it is at 2.000 rpm when its down to 1.000 in drive it's good. i don't have a throttle body still has a carb still a cater YA or something like Y something. no idea what a IAC is ?
