i have a trans that im goin to be puttin in my car for a 5 speed swap and i have a question. with the shifter in the neutral position if i spin the input shaft fast the output shaft will turn but if i spin it continuously at a steady speed it will not turn. is the output shaft suppose to spin like that with the trans in neutral?

Yeah thats fine. Shift it through all the gears and make sure they work. Nothing will tell you the condition of the tranny without pulling off the top cover.
