Transferring Unregistered Fox fro Wa to Ca

Hey everyone just like the title reads, i have a foxbody thats in Washington state that needs to get there all the way down to southern california. Only catch is, it hasnt been registered in over 6 years, and i was wondering what are the best ways to get it down here? I heart of 3 day trip permits and i was planning on getting one from washington and one from California but i dont know exactly all the details on how to obtain/ how they work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! O i cant tow it btw no truck..

temporary tag? good for 30 days. I dont think I have heard of a 3 day permit

What would i have to do to get a temporary tag? Im just a little nervous because its two different states. Like if i get a trip permit or a temp tag from over there and i get caught in California and they try to tell me it wont work because its form Washington. I just dont wanna get the car taken.

go to the registration office and ask for a temporary tag. it works just like a liscence plate only its good for 4 weeks. you should be fine crossing through states as long as you have your insurance and registration papers. why are you so concerned about getting it registered? does it not have a title?

No i have the title It's under my Uncle/My name. I just dont know the laws very well, I'm only 20 and if a cop from another state sees me driving around a loud, fast fox that is from California, with a little filipino guy in it.. just trying to be safe ha. Yes im asian and i have a fox. Im one of the smart ones ha.

I hope you don't have to first pay Washington State all the previous registration moneys. California is uber strict on laws, so if you're military, it might be worth running those plates for a few years. If not, you could get a new license and insure/register it up there. There's nothing wrong with California, you'll just find out many of your car projects will have you searching and reading legal documents and sites than actually just doing things

Hopefully your car is fully working, there will be an out of state exam at the DMV that you have to go through (pretty simple, actually) and a smog to get registered as well. Hopefully you've got cats and a smog midpipe on, or you'll get some funny looks from the smog tech.

as long as the registration and insurance is in order they cant do anything unless you are being reckless. get a temp tag. I forget what they cost now,but the last time I got one in FL it was only like $35

Well the car is actually a California title, i bought it in Los Angeles a long time ago. And yes its completely smog legal, cats, smog pump, o2 sensor everything is hooked up so i think i should be fine. Its also a salvage title though so i know i will have to get a light and brake inspection test from my local Police Station. Im hoping it doesnt turn out into a big ordeal. And as for doing things, I dropped about 6000 bucks worth of motor into it, so the only thing im gonna be doing is suspenstion next, as its all STOCK! Dangerous.. The motor installed on the car before put down 325 to the wheels. ITs already plummed for a sc and everything.

Sweet thanks alot, Im just not too familiar with laws, that helped out alot though. Im probably just go with that. Get a temp tag, bring it down here, get it registered and not have to worry about it.

So the car was never registered in Washington? Also, did you get a new title when you bought the car, or do you still have the old title from your uncle? Do you still have the CA plates?

You are correct. The car was never registered in Washington just stored there. And i believe i got a new title with both of our names on it. And yes i have the California plates still on there. Will that make things easier on me or harder?

In CA. the plates usually stay on the car (my car has had the same plates since 1991), even when the title is transferred. Unless you have the car registered "non-op", you may be responsible for back DMV fees. Your best bet is to try to contact the DMV to find out the actual cost. You may be able to take care of this online, or over the phone.

If you can take care of that, you may be able to have your plates reinstated, and drive it down as is, with enough time to get a smog check to be fully legal.

Hopefully you're current on your registrations.

My lady's brother had something similar to this, he sold his truck which sat in his parents driveway for 4 years. He signed the title over, and when the new owner went to register, they had to pay back fees and penalties.

Came out to like $955 with the registrations for the current, 1 year prior, 2 year prior, and the late penalties.

If that ends up being the case of me having to pay a bunch of back taxes, late fees and all that other crap... Im going to have brought down here, take the motor out, and sell that POS. I hope that isnt the case though, but still that would suck. Im gonna call today or ask my Uncle if its registered under non op, and if it isnt, its been 6 years so if i have to pay all those late fees itll end up being more than i payed for the car which was 1500. Then i dont think its worth it. Ill try to find a notch shell and throw my motor and tranny in.

I checked on the situation, and i guess it was complicated so it never accrued any fees. The car was an auction car so it was never actually owned by anyone. It got siezed by the government, and was bought by a guy who owned a small dealership. Sold it to us for cash and just signed over the title. So i think im ok Ill post up some pics when i get it next week. It looks nasty but ill post up some sound clips and youll see from there
