Transmision mount?

Tranny mounts (both the supporting crossmember and the rubber mount) are all the same in 65/66, no matter what the tranny/motor used.

The transmission will "sort of work" behind the 302. You would need to swap the bellhousing to one from a V8, plus you would need the V8 flexplate and torque converter. This is not really a good conversion because the 6 cylinder tranny is not built internally strong enough for a V8 and could quickly have you walking home.

Unless your car was originally a V8, you will also have other issues, such as the rear end, suspension, and brakes are inadequate for V8 torque and HP. Do some searches on converting I6 to V8.

At one time someone has converted almost everything over to V-8 components. Its a factory 6, but it now has 5 lug wheels, bigger fuel line, and steering components have been changed.

I am changing the leaf springs, coil springs, and putting disk brakes in the front.

I suspect the tranny in it may have been the one behind the V-8 that was in it at one time, but I dont know how to tell the difference between a 6 cyl tranny and a V-8 tranny. If the casing are the same, my tranny guy can put V-8 stuff in it, its getting rebuilt anyway.

The rear end is a 8 inch, if I scatter it I`ll get another one.

No problem 65FB--it sounds like you are going to do it right. :nice:

So many people on the forums think that all they to do to convert an I6 to a V8 is change the motor and tranny. You have done your homework and are well on your way to understanding what is involved. Good for you!

Good luck with your fastback-it will be sweet when you are done. :D

Thanks Dennis

Me and a buddy also installed subframe connectors last week, if I can get my dang digital camara to download my pics I`ll post some. Thanks for the praise, but I dont deserve it....yet anyway LOL
