I just bought my second fox, a bone stock '90 notch. The 2nd gear syncro is on its way out, probably 3rd gear too.

I found a T-56 on Craigslist that has similar issues for $400.

Is one more expensive to rebuild than the other? If they are the same, I'd like to buy the T-56 and do the swap.

What is the general opinion on this matter?

***edit: I'll be taking a 351 block to the machine shop soon to build a 393, so I'm expecting to be making 450hp/400tq eventually. I need something that will handle that at the track.

Thanks!

Also...

I did do a forum search, but didn't really find a direct answer. Everyone seems to be running a TKO 500/600. Are the T-56s not a popular swap? Why are the TKOs more popular?

T5 is cheap and easy to rebuild...t56 is expensive and harder. Plus it's not a direct bolt on so you need adapter to block and custom crossmember and other mods to make it work

Definitely out of a Z28. Its sounds like more work than it is worth.

I saw most people chose the TKO 500 over the 600 because of the gear ratios. Looks like I found what I need. It will handle a 393, right?
