The information is in your owner's manual.

it's non synthetic? hmm, would it be a pretty good idea to switch that to synethic then, or does it really not make a difference?

Make sure you get the Mercon V. That's what the dipstick and the owners manual say to use. Mobil 1 has a new Synthetic ATF that is Dexron III Mercon V I believe. I used it, and not that you can tell a difference it seems to be working fine. Gas mileage came up a little bit on the new fluid...but that could just be coincidence.

I used GM syncromesh because that was what was recommended to me by steeda. After some bad advice I have gotten from them lately I wonder if the fluid was right for my tranny

I have a '99 with the T-45. Manual calls for Motorcraft Mercon ATF and I have used it for 101k with no problems. It shifts great when you are getting on it. Some people like the more expensive synthetics because the shift smoother during normal driving. However, I'm going to put what Tremec and Ford recommend in mine and its cheap as hell. If you feel rich then you can use GM Syncromesh ATF, but it is considerably more and not necessary.

I talked to Tremec technical assistance about my T-45 and he said the standard Motorcraft Mercon ATF is fine and recommended for the T-45. He also said the GM Synchromesh is fine, but not necessary for the T-45.

the autos use the mercon v and the t-45 uses mercon III fromt he factory. but you can switch the trans over to synth if you want to.
