transmission problem

iv'e been having some trouble with my car when i first start it up. after i start it i put it into drive and normally it will go for a second and then it acts like it just got shoved into nuetral
it just revs up and doesn't go anywhere but the shift handle doesn't move (it's an automatic). after a couple of secound(5-30) it starts going again. and this won't happen again until i turn it off.

Does anybody have any idea what this is caused by ,and how to fix it?

Maybe sticking valves in the valve body. I would recommend a transmission flush. Although, you said the fluid is ok, but you didn't say what it looks/smells like.

Sounds like a slipping clutch band.

How many miles on the trans?

Does it clunk or make any funny noises when you drive?

it has about 94,000.
it has no funny noises.

I had a similar problem on my auto '95 GT. First got a new shifter cable and after that didn't work I had to get a $1600 tranny overhaul.
