My car has sat for about 3 months, run occasionally by my dad. I started driving it again a couple weeks ago and I noticed that it no longer shifts into 4th gear (AOD) after the engine is warm.

Do I have an AOD thats going bad, something that is clogged or something else?

Thanks,
Zach

How does the fluid look? Smell? Is it jerky when you drive?

Well it's jerky when it shifts into 4th at 40mph but it has always been like that. I havent seen or smelled the fluid as that would invove dropping the pan.

What about the transmission dipstick?

Better question, how many miles are on the transmission? When was the fluid changed last time?

On higher mileage transmissions, the OD band
servo rod can wear the case enuf to allow a
pressure leak past it.

Sonnax makes a servo applicator rod with an
O ring in it that is supposed to cure that.

Check out the Sonnax site.

They also have a good symptom-problem table
in there that can help you narrow down causes
for different AOD problems. AODs also can have
problems with valves wearing in the valve body
and Sonnax has fixes.

Transmission has about 120xxx on it. Fluid was changed just 5 or 6 thousand miles ago.

With the sonnax things, that would require tearing into the transmission or just popping off the pan and replacing something?
