transmission question

Hey guys, well i have another question.. i started a post a while ago with some things im planning on doing over the next year, but im stuck at the transmission part of things... im planning on 450-500 rwhp, after heads, forged internals and kb 1.7 running 14psi, but i need to know what to do to the transmission, i have a 03gt AUTO, i know i was to do a 2800 stall? but who makes a good one?? what are the prices on something like this? what else would you recommend to help handle the power?? aluminum drive shaft?? trans cooler im sure? but any suggestions would be great!! thanks guys!!

To reliably handle that power you'll have to go with a built tranny. Level 10 or Lentech make excellent automatic tranny's. A 2800 stall might be a little much for a torque heavy car with a kb blower. Maybe just a little less like a 2400 stall for better traction.

Ok first thing is if you did a 2800 stall now it will stall at a much higher rpm with the supercharger on the car.

now the idea of the stall converter is to have the stall speed at a rpm where your motor is close to peak tourqe. if you start making good tourqe at 3800 then you want a stall speed near 3800.

many people fear high stall speeds just like some fear the gear.

the above post says to lower the stall speed to improve traction, I say maximize how fast your car will be with the power it's got and then build your suspension and use the right wheel and tire combo to get traction. for one thing i would go with 15 inch wheels so you can use a drag radial on the street and slicks at the track that will have some sidewall flex.

3500+ stall might seem hig to you but it really is not that high.

put it this way, with the LS-1 F-body the best stall to go with with the stock cam is 3800-4000, one of my friends with a 99 z28 went with 3.73 gears and a 4,000 PI stall converter.

I like PI converters. I have used them on a few F-bodys and one blown fox body and we have had good luck with them.

for your car with the blower I would get a multidisc converter.

cool thanks for the info... but being i dont know how much im going to take it to the track, is the 3400 still a little much? is the converter going to change my RPM's any more than the 3:73 or 4:10's i know it will suck gas like non other but oh well.. thanks for the help!

before you select your converter you need to figure out where you start to make power. with a KB I bet you will need less than a 3400 probally more like 2800-3000 tops i used those numbers just for making my point. there is no stall speed that is perfect for all cars.

you will not notice even a 3200 stall much untill you get atleast 1/4 way down on the gas, then you will see the rpm's jump up. you know how you hold you foot on the brake and gas at the same time and the more you push on the gas the higher the rpm's go untill it either spins the tires or reaches stall speed. well with a higher stall converter it will rev higher when you do that but the same effect.

a few hours ago I drove my friends 94 z28 with a 3200 PI stall converter in it. and it was efficent enough at low rpm's that it felt almost the same as stock if you babied it. but if you pushed it a little the rpm's shot up to 3000+ but in normal driving it would go to 2000-2400 rpms untill it locked up.
