Transmission Wiring

Allright. For the longest time my car had been giving me problems with the overdrive. And it still is.

I have, though figured out with relative certainty what's the problem.

You see, I took it into a shop last week, and they ended up telling me that it's not the transmission it'self, but the fact that it's getting no ground signal or something like that. They said that it's either the wiring or the computer that's the problem.

Since I just swapped out the computer with one that mg man gave me, and the fact that everyone says the computers are bulletproof, that makes me rather sure that it's not the computer that's the problem, but the wiring.

That leaves me with a sure problem, but still little clue as to what to do.

Can anybody help me? What would I need to do to fix a "ground signal" or whatever the hell the dude was talking about, knowing that it's the wiring that is the problem. Is it an easy afternoon's fix? What does it entail?

Basically, what do I do now?

Jack up car Make sure to use Jackstand remember car replaceable you are not. Look at electircal plug at trans if shop hasn't done this. Make sure plugged in, Move wiring look for bad places in it .One or two plugs on trans I don't know 93 was in two pieces when I got it. The computer you got. I will for that part of wiring if you need it. But probable easier to fix than replace unless plug bad. Some here may help more

You seem headed in the right direction. The trans solenoids inhibit shifting into overdrive or converter lockup until they are turned on. Ford uses power to most engine and trans control functions, and the puter grounds the circuit to operate it. So you have to have two wires to the solenoid.

Easiest is to disconnect the wires and check continuity back to the plug at the puter.

You will need a wiring diagram for this, but the Autozone site has them. If you go over to the 5.0 tech board, and search for EEC info you will most likey find the pinout for your puter or some helpfull info.

Note that there are 1 and 2 solenoid valvebodies in A4LD trannies, so make sure which one you are dealing with. Your 93 should be the 2 solenoid version. Reviewing the book indicates that if your overdrive problem is electric, you have a 2 solenoid unit, in which od is also inhibited electrically until the computer switches to allow it to shift. A bad connection will cause either or both of no converter lock up and no shift to overdirve.

Couldn't find anything good online, but I was able to get a Haynes manual. its says that plug 52 goes into a "3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID (A/T ONLY)" I'll assume that's exactly where I have a problem?
