tremec giving me trouble

i bought a tremec tko 500 about two months ago i have 1000 miles on it and it doesnt like to go in reverse or go into rist gear is this normal could my fluid be low any help would be great

Ive had my tko500 for a little over a yr and I have to shift it to another gear 1st then to reverse. Ive always done it that way. I dont have any problems with any of the other gears though.

thanks for the help ill try that for reverse i hope the tranny is ok i dont want to have to pull it out

What type of fluid did you use?
You should be using GM syncro mesh or equivalent

Yup, If I dont do that with mine it makes a loud as bang if I was just rolling foward, even if Im stopped. I always shift into 4th then to reverse.

Most of them synchronize reverse with 1st, 4th or 5th. Not sure on the 500, but my old school TKO works with 1st or 4th. Could also be a linkage adjustment- how's your clutch cable setup?
