Tri-Ax or Pro 5.0 ....

I have a triax and love it but dont have anything to compare it to other than the stock unit. I've heard people who have had both say that the Pro-50 is better so I would go with that.

I vote for the triax, But I can't compare it to anything besides the stocker. I think either one would be good well, Hell pretty much anything is better than stock.

I have the Hurst Billet shifter and it feels good. No complaints here either.

I've tried both the 5.0 and Tri-Ax shifters just while sitting in the cars and I couldn't notice any differences. They both felt good though.

Maybe the Hurst I used was just a lemon? I always knew them to make good products so I was suprised when it ended up sucking.

There are other companies out there that make shifters. I know that Down's has had one in a magazine recently that looked really nice. Kirban, MAC, B&M, Hurst, UPR, ect.

The Triax and the Pro 5.0 just happen to be the most available and marketed. Just like everything else people are going to say that whatever they have is the best and everything else sucks. I say, be different, and look into the others listed above. Some of them look much nicer than the Triax and the Pro.

Thats good advise and I see your point but when you stray out of the norm then you take that chance of getting something that does suck. Sometimes its ok to follow suit w/ everyone else when your buying a product that die hard tested and proven to be of great quailty.

Yup but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Whos to say there isnt anything thats actually better out there? Not only better, but cheaper, and possibly more ergonomic (so you dont have to swap handles and such). A performance advantage is never gained over your competition by following the crowd.

Besides, the guy i got my Triax from sold it to me cuz he liked his Hurst shifter better. Is a shifter really 'better' or is it kinda like choice in mid pipe....just a matter of opinion and how you want your car to feel? I think these two are tried and true exactly for the reason you state. People know they work, they get massive word of mouth and so people are scared to try others that surely work just as well but only possibly have a different "feel" to them.

The only reason I got the Triax is again cuz the guy tried it and didnt like it and sold it to me for $80.

*edit* he actually had the B&M shifter cuz he wanted to keep the Steeda handle and so I have the Triax with a B&M handle.

Very true, its just the chance you take, I guess thats why we see these types of threads so often, even though it would be better to compare the Tri AX to one of the less known shifters. Comaring the Tri ax to the Pro 5.0 is comparing apples to apples.

I disagree that they are the same. I think the tri-ax has a notchier more "positive" feeling shift to it, and the angling is slightly more towards the driver, which helps me cause I'm short (5'8). My frat brother, who's 6'2 has a pro 5.0 in his 98 and it definately sits more straight up. The throw distance is so close its negligible.

yea but does anybody really have the extra money to buy a lesser know brand without knowing if it's quality is up to par with the pro-5.0 or the tri-ax? When I get a shifter it's gonig to be one of these cuz everybody likes them... of course i'd rather stray and get a different one to deviate from the norm and give you guys reviews on more products but i don't have $100+ to spare if it sucks.

So, in conclusion, somebody rich start buyin shifters and test em...

MAC shifter...hahaha. Definitely do NOT consider that one; I've seen 2-3 people go with the MAC to save money and they ended up preferring the stock shifter.

Yet 90% of people that use aftermarket shifters continue to use the Pro5.0 or the Tri-Ax. There is a reason for that, and I'm pretty sure it's not just because the Tri-Ax and Pro5.0 have more marketing presence.

I have the Tri-ax, and I love it. The thing I noticed about the Pro 5.0 is that it sits straigther up. The Tri-ax angles back toward the driver. That I like, cuz I'm also short and don't have gorilla arms.
