Who makes that halo style lighted cupholder for the new mustang. I have seen it in cars but it never says who makes it. I know the light is blue like the my color blue.

Are you referring to the ambient lighting system?

Here's a video of mine:

Very silly option, but it looked cool in the brochure. At least you can leave it off...

Yep, Ford makes that halo. Don't know how easy it would be to retrofit.

It wouldn't be hard at all. Pricey? Probably.

Your local Ford dealer. Partscheap.com can get it for you. So can Kevin Casey.

It stays whichever color you select, and it turns on in that color when you turn on the lights. You can also turn it on manually without the lights, but if you leave it on, that's the color it returns to when you turn on the headlights. Or it stays off if that's the "color" you pick.

The problem is, it's too bright. The lights under the front and rear footwells are nice and dim, but the cupholder lights distract your eyes in the dark. I wish you could control the brightness, and that maybe there was a really dim one under the dash or something.

Hope that made sense.

I am thinking it would be difficult to retrofit. Has anyone done this?

My guess is it would be easy as long as you just connected one color to the headlights.
To retrofit it the way Ford has designed it would be very tough.

Not if you purchase the whole console from Ford. The console is one piece held in with a couple of clips and two screws. All you would need to do is hook up the wiring. Ford sells an ambient lighting kit for older S197's, but the cup holders use LED's instead of the halo. You could buy that kit for the under dash and wiring, but use the real ambient lighting console.

It's nice, but I don't think I want to go through the trouble of retrofitting.

I wonder if there's a way to dim the light in the cupholders?

No idea how its wired, but you could most likely solder a couple resistors into the circuit to dim it down.
