Got done installing my Trick Flow heads, intake, and cam today. Now I'm having idle problems. When first starting up, it idles fine, but once I drive it around it dies when coming to a stop, not everytime, but a lot. Now I'm sure part of it is due to the fact that the computer has to get use to the cam, but is there any other things I could do to help? Thanks.

Try setting your idle a bit higher so the computer will have a little play to try to catch the cars revs before it dies...

What is your timing at and fuel pressure set at?

My car has died a few times when I'm pulling in somewhere (have it in neutral) and when my a/c and electric fan are on...it will die...

I've had my H/C/I since May and my computer hasn't learned how to idle right 100% of the time either. Sometimes it's ok and others it's real bouncy. I hear getting a custom chip is about the only way to help remedy this.

I've been through this before, hopefully I can help. First time I took it out right after the H/C/I install it was idling great (after it warmed up and I tweaked the idle/TPS), but when I got in traffic I had to keep it revved at lights to keep it from dying. Turned out it was simply that the idle was too low. Brought the idle up to 800-900 rpms and it runs fine. Try it out and see if it works!

Most aftermarket cams require you to raise the idle to keep it from dying. My TF combo would die if i got on the throttle then came to a stop. Fixed it by raising idle.

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.

See http://www.troublecodes.net/Ford/
OR
See http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html for more descriptive help
OR
See http://www.mustangworks.com/article...c-iv_codes.html

IF your car is an 88 stang, you'll have to use the test lamp or voltmeter method. There is no functional check engine light on the 88's except possibly the Cali Mass Air cars.

Codes have different answers if the engine is running from the answers that it has when the engine isn't running. It helps a lot to know if you had the engine running when you ran the test.

Trouble codes are either 2 digit or 3 digit, there are no cars that use both 2 digit codes and 3 digit codes.

For those who are intimidated by all the wires & connections, see http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16153 for what a typical hand scanner looks like. Normal retail price is about $30 or so at AutoZone or Walmart .

Look for codes 27 or 29. Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is an electronic sender mounted on the speedo pickup gear on the trans. It works the cruse control for both 5 speed and auto trans cars. The VSS is used to tell the computer to speed up the idle as you slow to a stop. This helps keep the engine from stalling when you slow down for a stop sign or stop light.
Check to see if the electrical connector is plugged into it. Cost is under $30 and it is easy to replace.

I brought the idle up a bit and now it idles pretty good. Unfortunately now I have a whole different problem. See my other post.
