I have posted here a couple of times the last few days about a 95 gt that we put twisted wedge heads and street heat intake on, well after adjusting the valves 5 times, ( 3 diff ways) it is better, still a small amount of back fire through the intake and exhaust, so we must still have a couple of valves too tight. Question...Trick Flow sent 6.70 length push rods, and very specific instructions about valve adjustment with the 1.7 RR's, car starts, but will not idle. If you play with the throttle is stumbles, back fires ,but will not idel. It is some what better than it was, after we adjusted the valves again tonight,. Any ideas from some serious engine builder would be appreciated/
Thanks

Sounds to me like the distributer is off a tooth or two. Check your timing.

If it's getting better with rocker adjustment, check them again. I adjust mine by having the rocker loose, then tighten it up while spinning the push rod, when it gets hard to spin I figure that is 0 lash, then another 1/2 turn.

Since you are getting backfires thru the exhaust and intake, I dont think this would be a timing issue, although it's a good idea to verify.

I also think its a timing issue. The 94-95 gt's are notorious for spinning the outer ring on the balancer - that means that you're timing is going to be off. I think that when they spin, when you set the distributor on the desired setting, you actually have more advance than you want (i.e. 15 deg btdc instead of 8). (I'm not 100% sure that this is right - but just having a mental picture in my head of the balancer and the direction it spins would make you have too much advance )Try retarding the timing some, and see if it runs better. If it seems too - then i'd be willing to bet that's your problem.

when you get o lash leave it there lifters will compensate. you are opening the valves when you go that extra half a turn
