trick flow heads

i was thinking about getting a set of trick flow heads from one of my buddies that will give me a great deal on them. the only thing that is stopping me from getting them is that ive herd that putting a set of heads on a car with alot of miles (116,000) on it can make the car smoke.....atleast that what he said happend to his car. i have also herd this from other people too. what would you guys do?

I just put a set of AFR's on my 95 cobra with 98,000 on it as well as a new cam and she runs like a top. No smoke.

be careful, the heads may be crap, and thats why his car blew smoke,,,,, or he may have a bone up car. heads should do that if you install them correctly(not sure if you can install heads improperly) but i think before you buy them, take them to a machine shop and have the valves checked and what not.

well....suposidly they have less than a thousand miles on them and i can get them fully assembled for $800. do you think that there could have been just something wrong with you motor? they were on a 94 gt.

depending on how old they are trick flow heads used to have problems with tearing up guides... tearing up valve guides and seals can cause smoke to seap down in the runner.

like he said have them checked out if you want to.

those are good heads and a good deal.

also you will need the different pushrods and stud mount rocker arms to go with them. dont forget the edelbrock intake

Snoozer hit the nail on the head.

The problem doesn't lie in putting different cylinder heads on an old motor. The problem is putting "old" or used cylinder heads on any motor.

When buying used cylinder heads, you should always, always, always replace the valve springs. While you're replacing the valve springs, you are right at the seals and they cost about 30 bucks to replace. It's cheap insurance if you ask me....

you said something about making sure that i have an edlebrock intake....well i have a cobra intake. will that work?

yeha teh cobra is alright

grab teh heads and save up for a custom cam or good shelf grind.

The edelborck flow more than the cobra and you can just sell the cobra and recover some of the money back from the intake swap.

its not just that they flow better the edelbrock is more balanced and this will promote low end power. the edelbrock will actually make MORE torque despite the bs you might read form some newB here that says you will lose lowend.

it will make more power allover the racing rpm

what cam will you be going with?

i have a trick flow stage 1 cam in right now. its runs pretty well. as far as my cobra intake i the guy i baught it from said that it was portmached to trickflow heads so.... im not really sure if it is or not.
