Anyone know off the top of their head what size hole I need to drill? I couldn't find any instructions on this... and the largest drill bit I have is a half inch.

Also, how close does the inside get to the rockers? I'm not sure how much clearance there is, but it doesn't look like much. I plan to drill it as close to the end of the VC as I can just to be safe. Anyone drill their V/C at the rear near the firewall? The driver side is out of the question, the intake covers that sucker up.

Guess I'll scrap the rear of the engine idea. I would like to hook the crank vent tube back up to the intake. And a buddy mentioned the inside of the valve cover might have some build up on it and it would run to the back during a launch and then suck it up through the vent tube.

I also don't have a drill bit big enough anyway for this, so die grinder it is. My only question now is how far from the end of the v/c can I move the hole? I don't want to hit a rocker, but I also want it a ways from the alternator.

Decisions , decisions....

Find someone with a drill press. Measure the OD of the rubber gasket they include with the setup. That's the size of the hole needed. It was pretty easy on mine.

What the hell? Yes, it's off the engine. It's in my Focus right now actually. And I don't have my stock engine. I sold it.

You do realize the valve cover isn't the same as a stock one, nor are the rockers underneath it right?

I would rather move the tube back away from the alternator if I could. More room for the plug wires. If I add one of those fan dansy uper chargers I would have liked to move it all together.

Edit, I just got what you meant. You obviously haven't seen one of these add on filler tubes from the bottom. The stock one is made into the v/c and appear smooth on the bottom. These protrude down through the v/c. The grommet and part of the tube itself is sticking down towards the area where the rockers are located.

I should post pics when asking question. Perhaps I'm not explaining it very well.

I really don't have access to a drill press. I assume you mean to measure the diameter of the groove in the grommet. Wouldn't the OD allow the whole thing to fall in?

You are correct, glad you knew what I meant. I have filler tubes on each of my TFS valve covers.

I went to Home Depot and bought a 1" hole saw with a pilot bit for use with metal not wood. I believe the hole should be more like 1 1/8" but I couldn't get that size hole saw.

I drilled a hole in the valve cover mocking up where I wanted the hole prior to drilling. A 1" hole is too small for the grommet. I used a curve file to open the hole to exactly where I needed it. I used a little RTV on the grommet and filler tube.

Edit, I put my oil fill tube on the rear of the valve cover on the passenger side in between the #4 cylinder intake and exhaust rocker arms. I was debating on whether to get someone to tig weld the tube to the valve cover.

Myself and a friend measured all over, and without cutting through the words TRICKFLOW, we seem very limited on space. The filler tube sticks inside the V/C 1/2" and the rockers are within a 1/2" of the V/C as well.

I ended up drawing a 1" circle as close to the end of the stock location as I could. The largest drill bit I had was a 1/2" which I centered and drilled. Since I live in townhouses I can't really use my air compressor too late in the evening. So I've manually cut the remaining section. I just need the curve file to finish it off. What a PITA. Now if it's too close to the first rocker, I can trim down the grommet a bit. The tube itself shouldn't be an issue. Plus I'll be able to use the crank vent tube.

Your thread made me think of a different option here Paul

I'm only thinking out loud here and my idea won't work
for all combos but ... it could for some peeps.

Many of you guys remove emissions equipment from their Stangs.

This means the filler tube is only used for oil fill needs.

If going with new VC's like Paul here ... One could just blow
off the entire oil fill tube all together and use a funnel at the
pvc hole for an oil fill application

Oh sure, bring this up AFTER I drilled my cover.

You know, I've been thinking of going with a lift off hood if this sucker won't shut. That would just add one more benefit.

That's what I did. I just stick a funnel in the pcv grommet now residing in the valve cover to fill and call it good.

I spent my lunch at home working on this. I've now got a perfect circle, just need that extra 1/8th inch to get the grommet to fit. Files are slow, but they work.

I have plenty of room on my passenger side valve cover, kinda pointing towards the drivers side fender. I wish I put mine there. Mine is very close to the factory location and I hate. It's such a pain in the ass.

I finished it up last night. I test fit the cover on without the tube in it, and WOW those rocker nuts are close. Glad I pushed it as far over as I did. Plus my new alternator overlaps the edge of the V/C. But it looks like it'll work. I just may have to remove it to check things under the V/C.

I also did the following. Coolant hardlines installed, heater core hooked back up. Alternator and bracket installed. Alternator's new wires ran. Fuel rails reinstalled with "incredible hulk" injectors. Wiring harness reinstalled. Coil is in place. Tensioner and idler pulley installed. Water pump hoses installed.

While I was doing all the above, this happened:
