i have a 94 gt, i just bought the Trick Flow Engine Kit (HCI, and all the goodies), and i wanted to know if i really need to get a throttle body and maf. with christmas coming, if i don't have to have those, i could use the money elsewhere

tespecially because your going to need bigger injectors anyway and you need a different MAF for that anyway

Depending on how serious the engine is, you don't really need a new MAF. '94 & '95 Cobras ran the same MAF as GT's with 24lb/hr injectors because the computer was calibrated for the injectors.

Using a MAF calibrated for a stock computer running larger injectors is a bit of a band-aid fix. It just lies to the computer to shorten the injector pulses to help prevent an over-rich situation, but are rarely tuned to run perfect because the output slope is different than the factory one.

hmmm i didnt know that....hes DEF gonna need 24's with the h/c/i, but if it works with the stock MAF then awesome!

You won't neccesarily need a new maf, but you will need bigger injectors, 24's should work. However, the Cobra computer is the thing that is tuned different to handle bigger injectors, so you will have to get it tuned for it to run at all with those injectors and a stock maf.

Both cobra and gt have 19lb squirters, the cobra puter is what is tuned to make the 19lb run like 24lbs. Not sure if you were saying they did but it's a bit unclear the way you have it stated.

Cobras most definately have 24's. GT and Cobra MAF's are identical. The difference is the J4J1 tune of the Cobra vs the T4M0 tune of the GT.

I have done what you are considering with success but only cause I had all the options available that self tuning gave me to make it happen.

First things first ... You don't need the tb for now, it can wait until you can afford it.

Next major thing to know about is ............
the air flow those parts are going to produce will absolutely, positively require a good bit more fuel and that means larger in tank fuel pump and larger inj's.

24's at the minimum and they most likely will need to be run using inflated fuel pressure by using an afpr.

You can NOT get by safely without the additional fuel.

You also don't need the maf but ONLY if you know how to tune around it.

Here is where you gotta do some thinking about the long term goals or plans for your combo before spending or you could end up buying parts twice.

Decide on if you wanna go 24's or 30's cause if you are not gonna self tune, you will need a maf to go along with which ever size inj's you decide upon.

Know that when you get it all put together it very well could have some drivability issues but that combo could also go 300 to 325rwhp with all the supporting mods and a tune.

With that kit, I'd blow off the afpr and go with:
255lph in tank fuel pump
30lb injectors
maf caled for 30's
chip or self tune

Good luck and keep us updated!

I was kinda tired last night and forgot to point out some stuff to you that is important.

Even though it is possible to get by with the stock tb & maf by using a custom tune ......................

The additional air flow of that kit will push the stock tb & maf to the ragged edge of their capabilities.

You will gain from their upgrade with out a doubt. :nice:

As the others have said above, don't get a Pro to tune twice. Just run the maf in cheat mode until you get the tune.

Then again, if you decide to self tune ...... you can go in any direction you choose with these issues :D

Decisions ... Decisions ... Decisions :bang: :rlaugh:

I just did a TFS HCI kit this summer too (substituted AFM B-31 cam), and I agree with everything Grady said. Definitely think about 30lb injectors
i do agree as well, however i have a cobra and retained the factory injectors. i am currently running in the neighborhood of 42psi at idle, this puts me too high to safely run my dry shot.

if i had a gt and had to put injectors on i would go with 30's. you never know when the nitrous bug will bite.
