specs:

stage 1 cam: 221/225 499/510 lift

stage 2 cam: 224/232 557/566 lift

im considering all aspects on which cam to run for my app. but based purely on sound, which one of these sounds better with a 1.6 rocker setup? i've heard the stage 1...and i like it. but im curious if that stage 2 has that much more of a "lick" to it?

thanks

sound clips would be great if anyone has them.

don't pick by sound, pick by performance and matching it to your combo.

If your motor is stock which it appears to be you really will not gain much by swapping cams, although if your stuck on doing it get the Stage 1, it will clear with out PTV issues. A Comp 270HR would also be a good choice.

Now if it is for the 331, go custom

it will be for the 331. like i said tho, im looking at all aspects of it. im not picking a cam based solely on sound. just wondering what the difference was in that amount of lift. i considered a custom grind....but i dunno. trickflow makes a dang good cam for the price and for a out-of-the box cam

thanks

Neither one of those cams are really great for the 331, I would also suggest a Track Heat intake, the SH is to small for the extra cubes.

Custom grinds are worth every penny....

custom grinds may be worth the money. but i have a very trustworthy ford mechanic. either of those cams will be good. as for the intake, thats still up in the air. but it will be one of the trickflow series

thanks

Well I personally have used the Stage II cam in a customers car, the best thing we did was pull it out....it just did not perform IMO....but what do I know I just build them I see a SN seires car in your sig, those computers are picky but I am sure your Ford Mech knows that.

Good luck, the Track Heat or R would be a good choice, but you'll need to properly cam the car to make it work.

i believe i'll be good. the setup i will be running should work together with either of those cams.

...but what does my mechanic know, he just builds them

Go with the 58cc chamber AFR's, they have a more efficent chamber.

i have a master ford mechanic who is very trustworthy (bro-inlaw). I trust him for everything EXCEPT picking out a performance combo. Putting a whole ford together, perfect, building a high output motor, no...i know more and i've only been on here learning for a couple years. Rick91GT knows more than you and your buddy combined. if i were you i would listen. If you cant afford a custom grind cam i would get a XE274HR, or something comparable. Not sure what you are looking for of course.

i will be clearencing my block in march by myself, so i will be asking you those question you told me you could answer about the process. I bought a book on blueprinting and it seem straightfoward enough. saving 200+ is beauty. thanks

first of all youre not even posting on what i had originally asked. like i told rick, i didnt ask for guidance. just asked for a cam compare. so if you are not going to help out with that question, just dont post. second, you know nothing about me or my mechanic (93 splash 347 procharged 900+ horse.... about to change to a twin 72mm turbo setup making over 1300)
how do you know what he and i know?

seems to me you spend too much time typing stupid posts rather than wrenching.

LOL okay bud...im getting the popcorn out for this one.

oh the more duration and higher lift will have a rougher idle, move ur power band into higher rpms, and scream more. of course it will sound meaner, its a far larger cam. im sure your mech. told you that though.

They aren't know-it-alls. They are more of know-the-obvious. Your answer is in the post directly above you:

The fact that you even ask such a dumba$$ question is the reason you are getting tech advice. You're an obvious idiot. Excuse Rick for the sympathy.

First you asked about picking the cam by sound and I replied...

As far as my comment on the AFR's I was trying to help you make the right choice, most people do not know the 61cc and 58cc chambers are a different design.

Your guy has some nice combos I am sure you will be happy with the results, in the end that is all the matters.

To each his own, I'm done with this post.
