About two times this past week, I went to start my car and the starter would keep turning over, even with no key in the ignition. Both times, I disconnected the positive battery cable and the problem was fixed.

Last night I went to start my car and it started really slow, however it did crank over.

I replaced my battery 3 weeks ago. Does this sound like it could be a loose ground wire on the starter or something?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i would start at the solenoid and work downstream. if the solenoid cuts the juice when the key is shut off, no matter what is wrong with the starter itself, it will not have juice.
sounds like the solenoid is staying closed, either internally or from a bad ignition switch keeping juice to the solenoid trigger (much much less likely. it would take a neutral safety switch/clutch safety switch failure to assist that misfunction).

my two cents worth. good luck.

its not the starter!

my 82 did this to me! i changed the starter, and it worked for a few weeks and bammm, did it again...

change the starter solenoid, it runs between the battery and starter, there is a few other wires also...cant remember everything, its too early. the one that sits on the passenger side inner fender...thats where it was on the 82 anyways...fixed my problem right up.

goodluck, oh, its also alot cheaper than a starter!!

Out of curiosity, where is the starter relay located?

I have a new battery, replaced the soleniod about a year ago.... Im lost. :nonono:
solenoid is on the driver fender. look at the battery, then go toward the firewall. it may have a cover over it, some do and some are long gone.

it has two big lugs on it. one has one cable attached, the other has all sorts of stuff attached. and on top is a little wire that slides onto a stud. the solenoid is a little round deal.

good luck.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of replacing the starter anyways since it is still under warranty. Is there any way I could replce it without removing the passenger header? I don't want to remove those headers after all the trouble I had putting them in. :nonono:

Just wanted to let you all know that I had the starter replaced by a local mustang performance shop. The problem is fixed. In addition, I got my money back on the starter from the auto parts store. :nice: Thanks again for all the help everyone.
