im trying to install stud mount rockers. in doing so i am turning the block by hand with a 3/8 ratchet, brakerbar, 16mm socket, and a 12'' extention. so far i have broken 2 craftman ratchets( not inhalf but the ratchet startes to slip after i put so much presure on it) and a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter. i tried removing the plugs but the same thing happens. do i just need to use a 1/2 ratchet and socket??? what am i doing wrong?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, something is wrong if you cant turn it with the ratchet, definatly wrong if you have broken or stripped 2 craftsmans in doing so, unless by some stroke of luck you somehow ended up with 2 bum craftsman ratchets, which I doubt, is this a running engine still in the car, or is it on a stand, was it rebuilt? Oh yeah, if the engine is still in the car, and it is a standard tranny, it probably isn't turning because it is in gear and the engine is locked to the tranny by the clutch, try putting it in neutral and give it anouther try.

First off, use a half inch breaker bar. Second, pull the spark plugs. It'll turn over much easier then.

Has the motor tried to turn at all? You may have one of the new rocker ran down to far.

I always used 1/2 ratchet, plugs in without too much problem. Maybe yank the belt off and start spinning accessories too. Maybe ones froze up.

New cam? Cam timing.
New heads/pistons? Valve clearance.

Will it turn CCW?

Engine Might have to get a Dart block but don't want to and if I do, then 363 instead of 331. Thoughts on what I've already bought so far.......
