i have a complete truck intake, and the lower's runners look pretty beefy. Is there and upper I can buy that fits under my stangs hood? If not Im going to chop the upper and custom fab a new tubular plenum. I need a cheap intake for my conversion.
I believe the holley systemax upper uses a lower that is close to if not identical to the 302 truck lower intake. I've never compared the 2 side by side, but have seen both and they sure look to be pretty much the same lower intake to me.
Do you have the GT-40 style truck lower "staggered round ports" or the box type port similar to the Holley SysteMAX II.
FWIW- The stock truck lower that looks similar to the Holley flows very bad, and needs a ton of work just do get decent numbers (fully welding areas, porting, epoxy, etc) and it will never flow like a SysteMAX II lower.
If it is the rectangular truck ports, it is very close to the Holley. My Saleen/Vortech intake I had uses a truck lower and was nearly identical to the Holley. I had to do some major port-work and welding on the lower for my setup.
The lower needs a lot of welding to redesign the ports (both is shape and size) and runners to get it to flow OK, way to much work even if you have the ability to do it yourself....IMO.
A Systemax II lower would be much, much better in the long run. Even a fully race ported Holley needs some welding to get it to perform to it's potential.
For my application, I opened it up to a 1262 Felpro gasket. A couple of the runners had to be welded due to the bottleneck. You don't have to weld anything if you just want to gasket-match to say a 1250 Felpro.
a Holley systemax II upper will bolt right on, BUT the lower will need MASSIVE amounts of cutting, welding and porting along with the fact it'll be costly to do to flow the same as the Holley systemax II lower flows right out of the box. IHMO pass on this project.
ok now can you compare the truck lower to the car lower? Similarily modded please. I just remembered I can get cheap car manifolds (i have a complete truck manifold off a donor engine)
