Trunk Area

I was wondering about what I could do with my trunk compartment. I dont want to just lay the carpet in and still have the wheels wells and all that ugliness showing. What did any of ya'll do to make it more of a box type area that covers all the ugly things back there. Any ideas would be great

To completely cover the floor, part, you could probably make a contour fitting floor plate out of thin plywood, then cover it with carpet. If you wanted, you could probably box-in the wheel wells with plywood and cover that with carpet as well. You might have to make it in two pieces, because I doubt it would fit through the trunk opening as one large assembly. That would also give you something solid to bolt a speaker box to, if you wanted.

Here's what I did with plywood. Built it all at home and had it professionally carpeted. I think if I did it over I would have tried to find a lighter weight material. It's not THAT heavy, but less weight is always a good thing.

I know they make kits that will make your trunk look like a modern style trunk with carpeting and it looks pretty slick. I can look to see what mag I say it in if you want the company's name if you want.

I used Zolitone..I think thats the correct spelling. It's high build, alot of people use it for spraying in bed liners in trucks. It covers alot of uglyness both in the texture and build. It requires almost no prep and being waterbased cleanup is EASY.

Here are some pics of what I did to mine. The wiring isn't complete in these pics, but you can see how the trunk is done. The panels were made from MDF (fiberboard).The front (solenoid panel), bottom, and rear are covered in carpet, while the 2 side pieces are covered in the same fabric I did my door panels in. The solenoid is from a mid 80's Mustang. I found it looked better as far as wiring goes. The box is for tools or other things. The 2 billet lights in the rear panel come on when the trunk is open.

I got type-s'es in my monte carlo and i would feel bad unleashing them on a 40 year old stang

weight is definatly an issue.... id use ethire sheetrock or carborad (cardbord can be a hassle) im trying to straighten up the trunk around my subs in my monte and im thinking about using ethire rock or some thin bathroom plywood i got in the garage

I would rather have no weight in my trunk since i dont often open it
