Trunk Mount Battery Kit

Is the Summit Trunk Mount Battery Kit the cheapest one out there? I don't really care how it looks, I just want to get the battery in the trunk.

Whatever you do, make sure you know all of the NHRA rules and regulations about battery relocation kits. There are quite a few provisions about having them, how they are to wired, and where the cut off switches are to be located amongst other things. I'm sure this isn't a concern for you, but just remember that if they do an inspection on your car at the strip, they could bust you for not having the proper stuff.

You need to have a cut off switch, but I'm not sure where its supposed to be.

This is what I know: The box HAS to be both vented and sealed, meaning fully enclosed, which I don't think the Summit jobber is. Depending on what type of box you use, I believe the cut off switch can be mounted/located in "any accesible place." That is how it was explained to me. The guy didn't go into great detail because I didn't care to ask him anymore about it. I'm sure others will chime in who know the exact rules, I just have an outline of what is required.

our track checks every car. i want to get a kit like that too, but it sounds like a pain and i'm not sure how to rig up the swith.

I was thinking... would it be better if i just bought a box, then got some wire and brackets seperate and make my own kit? Would the hastle not be worth making your own and would it cost less than the Summit kit?

For NHRA/IHRA rules you still need box like joe said.

The swap is pretty expensive. Im in the process of doing it. Moroso nhra/ihra approved box was 100, flaming river push/pull switch was 75, and wire will be a good 100. I think its worth it in the end though, if your serious about drag racing atleast.

I ordered the Summit kit tonight. The track I race at more than likely wont check. If they have a problem I'll just have to sell it and buy the right one.

wire should be nowhere near 100. if you want some good wire, at low cost, check out a local welding shop

yellow 95, hows the accufab tb? I heard to stay away from those, but yet I haven't heard a real review of their products yet. I have a 65 mm fms tb in my stang and I still feel like payed a little too much for the blue oval on the box.

make sure to keep us updated... on a side note my car has never been inspected at the track i got to at nc, not even at all. The two times ive been i havent had to pop my hood, trunk, nothing. Bandimere speedway in denver was always pretty strict about everything though

Yes, I'm going to be placing one turbo where the battery sits, and the other is going to be where the stock air intake is.

hypothetical question:

say you race at a track that does not ever pop the hood or trunk to check......and you had an optima, and no spare and jack. could you mount your batterry in the spare tire well?

They are supposed to be great. They are only made for FOX bodies though. I was going to do the fox tbody conversion. But i ened up with a turbo kit, and dont wanna modify it at all, so im switching back.

GTPhreak, how much for 1/0 welding cable? Im guessing atleast 3-4 bucks a foot. I would need about 20 if i keep the neg in the trunk, otherwise another 10-15 feet to run it back to the original spot in the engine bay. Plus wire to run from the kill switch to the alt. Not sure what size im gonna do that yet though.
