Ok i decided to go with the fiberglass california speical type trunk lid for my 65 coupe. I want to fill the hold where the lock would go to give it a smoother look. I'm just curious to hear from people that has done this and what metod they use to open their trunk. I have the mechanical trunk release unit but i have no installed it yet. Im thinking i have to remove the spring for the trunklid to prevent cracking/warpage of the fiberglass. Will the mechanical release lever still work if the spring is removed or will the trunk not pop up?? Do i need to install an electrical popper with the trunk release cable? I know Mdjay has filled the hole on his decklid but no sure how he opens it. Any other methods that you guys have heard of?

I use the pull cable from SD. We filled it with fiberglass and in the three years it's been done, there's no sign of any cracking. I doubt there ever will be since it's fiberglass to fiberglass. Yes you should remove the tention rod. So the pull will still work but it's a good idea to use a popper very close to the latch. Low tech version would be a small spring. I went mechanical on the pull since the battery is in the trunk! Either a linear actuator or a prop rod from there...
