TSB for 06 GT

TSB 0520-2 recomends replacement of the ring and pinion on 06 GT Mustangs. It may included 05's as well.

According to my Ford service department the problem is the result of Dana machining the gears incorrectly.

My 06 GT is in the Dealer's shop right now getting the ring and pinion replaced under this TSB.

If you are experiencing axle noise have you dealer check this TSB.

All these TSB's make me nervous. I haven't noticed the noisy axle in my ride, but the fact that a TSB was issued almost makes me want to get the service regardless. If it is related to a problem with Dana, wouldn't Ford know which vehicles would be affected?

Even though I don't have many problems now, I don't want to be bit after my warranty expires. And not just on the axle issue, but on most of the TSB's that have been issued.

I haven't had a chance to go over all the TSB's for an 05/06 'stang, but a TSB is not a big deal in the slightest. Anytime there is just a small change in the service manual, a TSB is issued. Ford engineers can simply discover that it is better to torque a nut an inch pound more than they had previously suggested and a TSB will be issued....

A TSB is not close to being on par with a recall. In this case it appears that Ford simply got a batch of bad parts. If there is no danger of those parts failing, they will issue a TSB to keep a lookout for excess noise or other symptoms. If their is a chance of failure, they issue a recall.

Are they putting FRPP 3:55's back into your car? I have heard some grumblings about weaker gears etc; my car is making the noise and I would like to take it in too.

Yes, there's no reason to get nervous because there are lots of TSB's. This is the case with all makes and all models.

As far as rear gear failure, this TSB does not mean that your rear axle is definitely bad. It will be a relatively low percentage of cars that will need to be serviced on this. IMHO, the WORST thing that you could do would be to run to your Ford dealer and have them change the gear and pinion before you even hear any noises. The factory has a MUCH better chance of getting it together correctly than does the dealership.

There are many competent techs at the dealership, and there are some that are not so competent. You are rolling the dice as to which type will be working on your car.

Anyone can put in a set of gears. The problem is that not everyone knows how to set them up properly and of that group not all of them CARE whether it is done properly.

I'm not worried about it because I will putting in a set of 4.10's myself anyway, and I am confident that I can and will set them up correctly.

Yes, they are. I guess I could have asked them to put other gears in it but I'm happy with the 3:55's.

I got the car back today 9-28-06 and it now sounds great. No more rumbling from the rear axle.

I'm not nervious, but the service tech at my Ford dealership is. He was telling me that he feels Ford is building crap today as far as the 05/06 Mustangs are concerned. He showed me a stack of TSB's two inches thick and that was just for this week. He said they come in daily.
This guy has been with Ford for thirty years so he would know if having this many TSB's was normal or not.

I love the car and figure I will just keep bringing it back each time I find a porblem and get it fixed. I am not giving up on my Mustang. That's like dumping your girl friend because you had an arguement. You just have to work it out!

As for the TSB for rear axle noise, they did find a problem and there was a TSB to correct it. They had to replace the ring and pinion gears.
