Hey guys I'm working on a suspension package for my 89 hatch and wanted to know if anyone has used or had any input on Hal QA1 pro-active system. Or if there is something else you would recommend.

My car is a daily driver but i am trying to gear the build to be a well balanced build that can be taken to the strip, auto-Xing, or road racing events and have fun. I would like to get something that is relatively easy to install and doesn't require any modification for tire clearance.

I'm a bit of a newbie to suspension mods so what ever advice/help I can get would be very much appreciated.

that is one of the best there is
put on in my friends 88 notch and had no problems
make sure you get the a arms too because it will move your wheels foward if you do not although you may want that for your road racing

If you plan on some cornering, I would recommend Maximum motorsports or Griggs.

I've heard that the maximum motorsport and the griggs packages require fender modifications to prevent the tire from rubbing. Especially for the 89 and earlier models because of slight differences in the front ends. From the reading I've done MM is really impressive. The only catch is the price tag that comes with it. I totally understand you get what you pay for, but I am also looking for the best bang for my buck. Clearly Griggs and MM make some of the best suspension parts on the market, but for the dollar how do some of the other front end packages compare?

Also, how is the ride quality and road noise on your buddy's car? And what kinds of mods and performance does it have?

UPR, QA1, etc are geared more towards street and strip duty. From the research I have done, they are not up to snuff for the loads encountered with cornering.

Yeah, MM and Griggs are expensive, but they are also well-proven and will hold up to a lot of abuse (short of careening off course into a concrete barrier, but then that may be OK, too). Griggs is more HD and race-spec piece, but MM is the one I would recommend.

I guess it just depends on the proposed use of the car--if it is autox and cornering, I'd spring for the best. After all, it's only your life if you are coming home from an event (autocross, open track, HPDE, etc). and something gives because it was stressed more than intended.

Wow I didn't think that the structural integrity of these other products could be compromised so easily. How much modification would it take to install the MM kit w/ the zero or forward offsets?

We could all guess, but the best thing to do is give MM a call. Their tech people are the best and will give you all of the information you need.

The Qa1 Design is well worth its money. I have had it in 3 of my last 5 cars, a 9sec to a 12sec and never had a problem. I did have the complete system in all the cars (a-arms coil over, etc).You will need to square the frame which can be a pain laying on the floor of your garage.MM is a great product that does require modifications, but for the price I will go QA1 all the time.

I have the MM K-member on my car (as well as other MM parts), and no fender mods were requird for my tires to clear. I can turn lock to lock just fine with no rubbing. The car handles amazing and doesn't feel much like a fox body anymore.

I think because I want to do some road racing and autocrossing I'm going to spend the money so I don't have to worry about anything. From most of my research MM seems to be the all around best choice for my application. I appreciate all the help and info.
