Tune up incoming..

I am new to this forum, and to Mustangs. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I could not find anything! My Fox 5.0 needs a tune up pretty badly, do brands really matter? I'm curious more about what oil to use in my motor and what spark plugs and wires to go with. Now, do I have to run a real thin oil like some other Fords need, like a 5w20? Are motorcraft copper plugs the best? Do high performance wires/cap/rotor really make a difference?

Thank you for any input here, ladies and gents.

Mike

i use 10-30w semi-syn oil and i just rebuilt my motor... id use 10-40w if you have kind high mileage.. motor craft plugs work great. k&n filters are great too maybe even a bbk cold air intake.... i use msd wires, cap, rotor.. (8mm wires cut to fit).. some people use all motor craft stuff. everyone uses diff stuff but im sure they all work great.. just make sure they're all up to date as far as service intervals an your good! and make sure you have a good PCV valve and thermostat along with good fresh vacuum lines!!

Oh ok, very helpful post, man! My car has pretty low mileage, at about 120k. I will probably stick with 10w30 castrol. CAI is a very good option, especially for the price I have been seeing online. I think i will stick with motorcraft for now, until the engine gets a few bolt ons... PCV is at the top of my list as I want to avoid any oil usage issues that I have been seeing on here. Thermostat and vacuum lines make a lot of sense too, didnt think of those.

Thanks again!

no problem! i have a couple bolt ons and copper plugs are supposed to work best (from what im told here). also clean your throttle body blade and egr valve and spacer too every once ina while... they build up pretty fast.. a great but over looked upgrade is a oil catch can.. i have one i got off ebay for like $100 and youd be surprised how much oil that gets caught in there.. waaaaay better that being sucked back into the intake!

That is a common mod I take it? I have seen many posts on it... I have never owned a car with a PCV system, theyre usually too old. So this is kind of foreign to me. I will also take the intake apart on friday and clean it up nicely after I change those vacuum lines.

Didn't take the time to read all the posts but heres my take:

cap (msd), rotor (msd), wires (msd), plugs (motor craft or ngk), fuel filter (Wix), diff flush (mobil 1 oil), air filter (or CAI), clean TB, oxygen sensors (NTK), trans flush with filter (wix), flush cooling system, power steering flush, bleed breaks, thermostat (160-180*), PCV valve, sea foam 2/3 in fuel tank 1/3 through vac system, Check belt and hoses, ensure vac lines are all good, clean idle air control valve, clean EGR valve.

I did all of these in the first week of owning my mustang cant believe how easy these cars are to work on over some of the failwd cars I've owned.
