tune up on the gf's car

the GF's 01 GT is coming up on 100k and its time to change the plugs and wires. Im used to messing with 5.0's and never done a plug change on a 4.6, is there anything i need to know? what brand plugs would be best on a stock motor and where is the best place to get the wires and plugs?
Also, her transmission is doing a funky studerin thing when it goes to shift, usualy from 3rd to 4th, ive heard thats common with AODE's but it feels like crap. anyone else have this problem?

Advance Auto is where I go.

I use Autolite plugs, stock heat range. I have been using coppers. They cost less but wear out sooner.

Also, there are no plug wires on a 99+ 4.6. They have an individual coil pack for each cylinder, and they are very expensive to replace.

autolite or motorcraft. make sure you torque the spark plugs, and change them cold. stock were double platnium, if its the gf's car you might want to stick with double platnium, less down time servicing.

Use motorcraft plugs. SP-493's i beleive gapped at 0.054"

Autolites are the same but i've heard they tend to vary on resistance values after use for some time.

Also....change the fuel filter. You will need a 5/16" fuel disconnect tool (like an A/C tool)

What else?? Engine belt, oil change, diff fluid change (synthetic 75W-140 only), and maybe time to change the trans fluid if it's never been done. Coolant should be flushed, brake fluid should be flushed, air filter cleaned or replaced. Prob a few other things i forget

Of course 100K miles is a long time to wait to do a tune up

I've heard mixed results from autolites but nothing but praise from Motorcraft plugs.

I already changed my fuel filter at 34K and plan to do a trans tune this spring along with throwing a set of plugs motorcraft PP at the car. It's going on 5 years old so what's a few dollars to keep it in good health?

To the guy doing the tune up... torque the plugs to 13ftlbs.

just get some autolite platnums, and On my GT the boots were cracked an corroded you might have to change them out. for about 8 bucks a piece. also it's a good idea to change the fuel filter. check the air filter too..

I vote for Motorcraft stock plugs. Motorcraft fuel filter as well. I would get the trans checked out. I had an AODE in a 95GT that had a slushy 3-4 shift. They pulled the pan, and found a spring that was broke. I don't know what it did, but they charged me 30 bucks for the spring and labor, plus a fluid refil. Problem solved. He said you don't want that going on and on, because a lot of clutch is being ate up.
