I have a 2000 Mustang GT that badly needs a tune up. I work full time+, but I'm also a college student (and pay for that out of pocket), so I try to spend my money wisely. I'm installing a CAI right before I get a tune-up, and I'm finishing the usual boltons (full exhaust, pulleys, handheld tuner, maybe a TB) shortly after. I'm also having a torque converter and gears put in soon...and maybe a small, small shot of the go juice as a semi-temporary measure (my real powertrain won't be built until I have a degree and no car payment).

Basically I'm looking for recommendations. This might seem like a petty and dumb thing to be asking about, but I'd rather get the right things on the first try.

What type of plugs should I go with?
How important are different types of wires?
Any filters that are noticably better than others out there?
Any other tips I should be aware of?

I have a lot of general knowledge about cars, as I read a lot of tech magazines and have been around cars for a long time, but my hands-on experience is low. So please forgive my ignorance.

Also, if it helps, I'm probably going with a JLT True Cold Air.

Thanks!

Just use either Ford or Autolite platinum spark plugs. I believe Autolites makes plugs for Ford. I used them in my car with no problems. Stick to a stock type plug with the proper heat range. You don't need a air filter since you have a CAI. Change your fuel filter. I had to get it Ford. I believe it was 7 bucks. I believe the plugs was about 16 bucks for eight. Also, change out your PCV valve. Not sure how much it is. Also, clean out your IAC(idle air control) valve. They will carbon up sometime and effect the idle. Be very careful when installing those plugs. Don't over tighten them. Use the search feature for tips on changing plugs, cleaning IAC, and changing the fuel filter. My car has COP(coil on plugs) so there isn't any spark plug wires. Just take our time. This is a very easy job to do.

Read some of the other threads on this topic, do some research. Your car will run a lot better once you tune it up

Also, when changing your plugs, make sure they're all gapped at the same hundredths and torqued down to 11ft lbs........
