Folks,

I'm ready to do some upgrades on my 2000 GT and I have been collecting parts and upgrades. I'm going to change gears and plan on a tune to add power and adjust for the gear change.

Needless to say I'd like some information on the two tuners I have narrowed down to:

  • Diablosport Predator
    SCT X3 Power Flash

My question is centered around octane level. The highest we have in UT is 91. Therefore I started doing some research on the two tuners with this in mind.

The Diablo's instructions say to simply retard the spark advance settings by 10% or more until the pinging goes away. Now they do make reference in their help forums to custom 87 & 91 tunes being provided for such a problem, but they recommend trying the spark advance adjustment first.

That seemed strait forward to me, but then I started reading about the SCT and it makes reference to 3 pre-programmed tunes. An 87, 91, and 93 octane selection. According to the instructions I would install the basic program then access the custom settings menu and select wich octane I want. Is this true? That seems a lot better suited for my needs, but I wanted some opinions on it before I ordered

I did a lot of searching on the site and couldn't find much about the octane levels, however it seems most Stangnetters go for the SCT due to support in their area. Out here there is only 1 dealer for either one. So I don't think I'd get more support for one over the other.

So basically for 91 max, wich is best?

Why not a custom tuned X3 for the same price as canned tunes? We do a lot of 2v 91 octane custom tunes - and with a custom tune, you can datalog, send the log to the tuner and have the tuner email you updates if they are needed. Dunno if all SCT dealers do this, but we do.

The Sniper Special Forces kits will give you the end user more adjustment than anything else out there and it uses actual values instead of percentages ......but an Xcal3 from Lasota wouldnt be a bad choice either ........

yea i would go sniper forces. more adjustments than the xcal and diablo. i use to have diablo and my brother is running xcal on his 07 GT and i like the sniper the best. but if you really dont want the sniper i would get and Xcal more people tune with it than diablo from what i have found.

Hmm, thanks for the input. You guys were supposed to help simplify my choice, not add to it.

Actually now I'm considering the Custom tuned SCT from LaSota, and that sniper software.

I'll do a little more research first, but I appreciate the input.

:nice:
