I can't believe y'all Edelbrock/Carter guys started this thread. I thought these carbs didn't NEED tuning ? ONLY Holleys needed this stuff ?

Exactly what I thought when I read this.

I just HAD to rub it in when I saw it. There's been too many posts here about how Edelbrock carbs are "bolt on and go" to do otherwise. And from reading about setting the fuel mixture on these, and all the different combinations to get them there, there's NO way you can tell me a Holley ( or it's many variations: BG, Quick Fuel, etc) are harder to tune.

I stumbled upon this thread and it turns out to be pretty amusing.

There is some good advice on tuning carbs in general and there is some opinion, not supported by fact.

I was looking through forums about the carter afb style carbs because the carter strip kit appears to be discontinued and no longer carried by any of the major suppliers. The edelbrock kits are still out there but honestly offer fewer tuning options for the money. They generally don't have the selection of jets and rods as the carter kits, and i'm looking for other options.

I found humor in some of RaSMG's comments. Most of what he says about the holley applies to all carburetors. If you understand how the carbs systems work adn you have the tools and parts to tune the carb they are all perfromance carbs. There are even crazy S.O.B's out there running 8's in the quarter on quadrajets *gasp*. They obviously know enough about carbs to take their understanding to multiple types and not just the partstore status symbols, aka holley.

Additionally the most noteable differences with some of the holley derivitivs ( other than quality) is the amount of tunabiltiy they've included as part of the design. They no longer have to modify the car to tune the airbleeds etc.

From looking over RaSMG's profiel i woudlnt be afraid to run into his holley power with my "non-performance" carter carbs.

Anyway if anyone knows where i can get an actual carter afb strip kit, #10-201, or a reasonably priced equivalent i would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

2-years is hardly a bump, unless you call the grand canyon a gully.
