turbo existing 5.0 or go with a built 351W??

me and my friend are debating on what to do to his car .....I am saying go with a built 351W and stay EFI , he is thinking about going to turbo on stock bottom end and going with a blow thru carb ...... here is a list of whats done to the car so far and what it runs

87 coupe
stock bottom end with GT40 cast iron heads , explorer intake
trickflow stage 1 cam
150 shot NOS wet kit
upr tubular k member ,control armsand coil overs with 90/10s
upr prokit in back
8.8 4.30 gears , auburn 31 spline and hardened axles
C4 with B&M transpak , 3000 B&M holeshot stall . aluminum driveshaft
MAC long tubes , custom 3 inch exhaust with dynomax ultraflows
car has run 7.70 at 90 mph on 75 shot in the eighth with a 3.73 gear and 28inch tall tire .......
he wants to run in the 6s in the eighth ???

Should do both,a turbo 351W with blow thou carb set-up :D .

It would make more power than the 302 and would be more durable.

If you're going to convert to a carbed turbo, the 351w way is actually cheaper. You can buy a short block for under 1500, victor heads under 1500, and cam and intake....another 300 or so......turbo kit for 5.0.....usually around 3200 and up.....then if you convert that to carbed instead of FI.....PITA! but then again, 351 swap isn't the easiest always. If he's doing 1/8th mile runs, then turbo is not the way to go really though......boils down to what he really likes more......all motor or annoying blow off valve :P

hes stuck on going turbo so I am trying to tell him to keep the FI and not go with the blow thru carb , but hes reading all this stuff on turbo mustang forum about the CSU carbs , and figuring up how much its gonna cost to change it over and I am looking at it like this , just the carb is $750 ? so I can get a deal on a set of VIC jr heads for $960 so why not build a stroked 5.0 and keep spraying or even stroked 5.8 with spray and better heads and intake .....

Whats so hard about either?

Maybe you prefer carb...which i dont really understand if you are already FI, but thats your opinion. Once you have the parts for the 351, IMO its a drop in a go. No harder than any other swap.

A carb setup with forced induction can be a nightmare to tune a lot of times. One day it runs great, another it's different weather and it doesn't want to run right. EFI comes standard on all vehicles these days for many reasons - save the nightmares and just keep it EFI.

You get thous heads, find a 351W shortblock and build it up and put it on spray.

And no baby shots either,200-250hp :nice: .

:stupid:

Personally i would build a 351 and put a junkyard turbo setup on it. Depending on how fast you want to go, just put a turbo on the 302. I have jus recently fell in love with turbos so thats where im going. Vrooooooomm.......PSHHHHH :D

Well I did the blowthrough carbed setup on a 342 and its interesting to say the least. Tuning isnt too fun but the carb doesnt cost that much. You can get a proform prepped carb for like $400. You can tune it yourself and if you can plumb your own setup you'll save there. Best to keep it fuelie though or go with the 351.
