TURBO SYSTEMS, WHO DO YOU LIKE?

Would like to know what fox bodies out there have a turbo system on a 302. Who you went through, prices, and overall fit and finish? HP Performance and Hellion power systems are the two that I have had my eye on for about 6 months now.

For next years racing season I would like to start out with a stout 302 and intall atleast a single 60mm turbo which seams to be the stage 1 kit for many systems. Thats okay with me for now. Later I will spend the insane amout of money for a built 408 and 88mm. Baby steps for now.

This season is still the 150 hp shot of nitrous, getting the front off the ground, and into the 11's with my slow shifting. I just missed that mark last year.

Hellion seems to be the best kit out right now for the fox body. All their exhaust is mady by Bassani which is high quality stuff and they claim to ship within a week. When I called they had kits ready to ship that day! HP can take a few months and then they are missing parts. Jon D at KKP has first hand experiance with HP.

With 116 mph in the quarter and only 12.10 ET I don't think your problem is HP. I would look at your 60 foot times to get you into the 11's. You should be at least 11.30 with that combo.

I hope to have my kit from pro turbo systems soon so will be able to tell you more then. I have had some changes in plans as of lately so will tell more later on that

I would say the TTi street kit is a good choice for a 60mm but not so much for an 88mm. My turbo set-up started out as a TTi street kit but has morphed into more of a DIY type thing.

Good to know that Hellion's pipes are made by Bassani. Just talked to Jon D. tonight on another matter. I will ask him more about the HP kit.

Thats what I thought! My best 60' time is like 1.79. I run slicks, have aftermarket adjustable control arms but don't know what to do about making it hook harder. Need more seat time and knowledge on rear suspenion setup. Once my car lift get here I will start to play with adjustments and take notes.

Thanks Phil, I will look into Pro Turbo Systems too. I may be picking your brain down the road.

John, 12.10 was with the bottle, that was my second pass ever with nitrous and in this car. I have it on film and I can hear the long shifts. I need to get a shift light installed. I was running it into the rpm band way to high, no power up there so I'm just wasting time, literaly.

MYFORDSFLY, I met you in Wa. the day of the Pinks filming. I really liked your white hatch and wished I had seen your run before things went south. Nice set up and will be giving you a call.

I've had two TTi kits, both have been flawless. They aren't the cheapest, and the street kits are just that so you'll probably have to replace it for the new motor but you can't go wrong with them.

I installed an early PTK/PTS kit on "The David"s car, nice peice as well but the fitment wasn't quite as nice as the TTi stuff...for the cost it was probably worth it but the wait was a lot longer too.

I have to say that I'm not too impressed with the design of the hellion kit, several compromises to it for manufacturing/install reasons, but it seems to work for most people.

In the end the installer and tuner will make a bigger difference than the kit will, choose them wisely and you'll be fine.

Eric, do you have any links for pics of their street kit installed on a fox body mustang? TTi web site sucks! No pics of the installed unit, no description of the parts included and no pricing.

I'm sure you could find some pics of them on TM.com, but I don't have any handy.

Their street kits use a log style header on one side (driver for foxes and passenger for SN's) with a rear crossover from a stock style header on the other side. The crossover pipe fits in the gap between the oil pan and the bellhousing at the rear of the motor.

I agree their web site sucks, but believe it or not it's actually a lot better than it used to be

Well I am no longer at the number on the card I gave you. I actually made a bit of a career change. I went back to Boeing and am an airplane painter again. But if ever you want any input or anything I am always glad to help and you can reach me on here. Just send a PM and I will give you my home number or something.
Btw, I did get a chance to get the car back to the track before the season ended. There is a thread on here called "video" of one of the runs. That day I met you what happened was the front drum in the trans shattered, kinda sucked. And then my ride home decided they didnt want to go see Pinks. I guess I have had better days, but it was good meeting you guys.

You're getting one of the larger turbo, drag oriented kits aren't you....

Yeah, I am planning on one of their twin kits later in the year. As you know, they are one of the few companies that has a street kit to support something greater then one T-76 for the '94-'95 cars. I wasn't a huge fan of the log style headers, though it seems they are phasing those out in some of the kits.

Adjustable control arms are great for setting pinion angle. Once that is done you are going to need to mess with tire pressure and shock settings. It looks from your signature like you have lakewood drag shocks, so you won't have any adjustability to play with. If you can't improve 60' times much down the road, you may consider picking up some adjustable shocks and struts. I have had experience on my car with KYB and Strange Engineering and was happy with both.

I don't know if i'd call the twin kit a "street kit" but it would work fine on the street if you're OK with manual steering, no emmisions and no AC It's also not designed for a 94/95 car, but with a little ingenuity and a few fox body parts it fits up pretty well. A single 76mm is probably plenty for just about anyone on the street anyway in all reality, there are head units out there that will support 1100hp at the flywheel in a standard T4 frame.

TTi only used the log headers on their street kits to begin with, and they work just fine in that application.

I still have the log style header on my car. At some point that will probably become my weak link but for now its still my stock block.

There are a few guys on tm.com who have made good power (500+whp) with the street kits in the past, but for anything on a non-production block or even a good 351w block I would move towards either a TTi race kit, one of the higher end street kits from PTC (or similar) or something custom.
