Ive come to the conclusion that there are no reasonably priced kits out thereamnit:. I was wondering if any of you have a turbo 4.6 or have done a 4.6 turbo build yourself and would like to know your experience while doing so. i would also like to know your full boost rpm and how much boost your pushing. I am on a college student budget but am willing to put in the work and make sacrifices to get my stang turbocharged. I am not stingy and am only looking for about 4 pounds or so so i can have a quick spool while developing enough power to make ls1's look like hondas (or at least be in high 12s or low 13s).

The only kit I know of is the kit I always see in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine. It is like $4,000 or so. It says it produces 8lbs of Boost. I dont know much more about it I will read more into it later tonight

Keep saving.....any way you slice it, unless you're mechanically inclined enough to scrounge the wrecking yards and build your own system, it's going to set you back some. If going the turbo route is the only way for you, that's fine, but since you're obviously on a fixed income for the next few years, I'd consider Supercharging or Nitrous as a cheaper alternative. Especially if putting LS1's in your rear view mirror is your only concern.

Im pretty comfy around tools and wouldnt mind doing a turbo build from a junkyard. The problem with an S/C is that i cant find one that will cost me less then what i would think a JY turbo build would.

and one more question: is there any way i wont get reamed in california when i go to get smogged and have a turbo sitting under there ?

The kits are in most cases hideously expensive, but IMO its worth it. Some of the kits even though the run in the neighborhood of 6-7k, will come with coilovers for the front, tubular A arms and K member (im pretty sure thats what its called), plus the manifolds (for obvious reasons) and alot of other bits and pieces. I like the ability to adjust the boost at will, and basically turbo's will make more power than a supercharger in most cases (if not all) at the same boost level because turbo's have lower charge temps.

I know a guy who turboed his 2000 stang GT. It's a single turbo, intercooled, but I don't know any of the other specs. He blew up his plastic lower intake with it and his car is only putting down about 340 rwhp. If you want me to try to find out more about it, PM me.

There is a bunch of us on this site with a whole forum dedicated to DIY turbo builds: www.turbomustangs.com

By the way...you'll need more than 4 psi if you wanna scare the LS1 guys... . Pack 14 psi of intercooled turbo boost and then you'll be talking!

I hope someday they fix the links for the videos on that site. They've been down about 6 months now.

I think if you have money and want to spend it, go ahead and under power a turbo setup.. if you're stuck on turbos.. I don't blame you.

Fundamentally, the best Idea by far to gain 350-400 HP would be to go with a supercharger. You will save ALOT of money and I think you'll get what youre looking for out of it.

The mongoose kits at modular powerhouse seem like they will suit you well, for what you say you're looking for anyways.

But if money doesn't play a huge role.. def. go with turbo, even if you underpower it.

Thats how I see it anyways

Well, first off...dont be scared to send some boost through that plastic intake...cheister (car tuned my MPH) threw 17.5PSI through it and made 601RWHP. (built engine ofcourse) IMO just get a S/C...its cheaper and you can make plenty of power through it.
