one last question, you say I can use either ecu with a 5speed but for an auto I must have an auto ecu. why is this?
if I decide to convert my setup to stickshift (since it's automatic) will this cause it to run richer.
Also, I will probably down the road do what you suggested and convert to the 87-88 ecu and what not. however, for now, cost dictates to me that I must stay with the 86 setup (if it indeed is an 86 or earlier).
The A4LD is computer controlled...OD won't work without an auto computer.
Why would it run richer? I already said you can run either computer with a 5 speed.
You can pick up an 87-88 auto computer (LB3, 8AU, etc.) for like 30 bucks. Big vam is 35...ACT is free at a JY (or not use one for now). So for less than 70 bucks you could convert from 155hp to 195hp.
It doesn't care if there is no tranny to control...it just goes about it's business.
In my area of town they are a couple hundred a piece...in the wonderful world of the internet they are that cheap though. Check ebay...if you don't see them there, check the for sale section of www.turboford.org
