I have recently come across an 86 project that is just got me going in circles. Just around the corner from me I've been seeing an 86 LX sitting in a driveway just fadding away. So today I approached the owner....what I've confirmed to date, paint is original fadded 86 and she's STRAIGHT, rust is not there at all and the body gaps are just right. Now for the wierd parts....car is caged and sporting some serious SFC underneath, interior is quite mediocre and soso complete BUT the car is a 4 banger converted to a 4banger turbo. Apparently the old owner had high hopes of a turbo car but things went as things go....it never went.

Anyhow here I sit looking at a completely clean with the exterior complete, 86 car that would exclude me from emissions, be a new project that would IMO be a little more original and different than my present 88.

Plan would be to pull the drivetrain from my little girl and install the 88 with another stock 302 and 10holes off the 86 (really really nice set), take half the $$$ to restore/complete the 86 to how I would want it and put the other half of the $$$ into babies bank account.

So far just a thought I'm throwing around...oh by the way I can drive the 86 home for under a grand...so I'm thiking pretty hard.

Should also note all the bling will be left on the 88...aside from the ROH wheels she will be litterally AS IS, the 86 will be smoothed bay but a perfect 86 GT resto with very very few visual mods aside from wheels and suspension. Engine will be my 306 carbed and it it can't be powder coated it likely won't be under the hood. She will be driveable, washable, and pretty as well IMO.

why would you do that to your 88? why not just find a stock 302 to put into it and drive it...unlike the present 88...keep that one how it is as a show car/weekend driver and use the 86 to beat on...OR complet the 4 banger turbo..those thing can move with few $$ invested into..in you need an engine keep your eye out for a turbocoupe and swap the drive train ie engine and rear.

and your should probaly be asking your wife not us...

Yep... I'd snap it up. Nope, I'd not screw up your current car to do it.

I keep having thoughts in my head of doing an N/A, 9.5 inch deck, high compression stroker, in an 85 or 86.

Huge cam, highest compression I could get away on pump gas with and a carb.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I would buy it for under a grand!! Either way you cant lose. If you use it Im sure you will make it into a master piece, or if you decide to not build it you could make some money on it!
Its a "win" "win" situation!!

What??? Hurt your beautiful '88??? Blasphemy!

OK - seriously...what WOULD your plans be for your '88? You've put too much work into that car to just tear out the engine and transmission from it.

I know new projects sound exciting, but as your kids grow up, I suspect you'll have less and less time to finish your new project. Personally, I think you have a sweet car right now. I wouldn't mess with the '86 if it meant tearing into the '88 for parts.

well major issue is the 88 is a rolling violation now that the new emissions testing has come into effect..I can't pass with the current setup and the exemptions start at 87 and back. Trust me the 88 is a nice car but she has flaws that drive me crazy just like everyone elses...the 86 would be my chance to take everything I've learned over the last 5 yrs and put together a car that I've always wanted...much like I did with my current car. I know without a doubt that the 86 would become a pet project of my little group just like the 88 did and infact it would be a better car when complete.

86 stays four lug and old school brakes...my wheels are IMO perfect for the new car. This car will be a 12 second daily driver but when done pretty like my garage queen...just different. I want a car I can drive on the road without worries about weather and even more I want to be LEGAL and out and about. I love my car but she's evolved into an object I posess more than a car...not to mention who doesn't love a nice clean growly 4eye ???

Trust me if I could keep both cars I would but I am only allowed one so I have to decide fairly quickly simply because you don't find cars like this one laying around often...this I know. It's alot of work and will take a while but I think the results would be amaizing with everyone I have available to help me out this time around.

I have a feeling if you do this, youre going to end up making a post that you regret it... you have one of the most beautiful fox's ive ever not seen in person, and i could only hope my car would come out 1/16 as nice as yours. But on the other hand, do what you gotta do man. I just hope you dont regret it.

Thanks guys...my biggest problem as I've said is the new emission laws will prevent me from getting a licence tag (valid) for her as long as I own it. According to new laws here 88 and up will require emission testing every two yrs from now till eternity . We've brainstormed quite a bit and seems damn near every component from my car that can be carried over will be...I would like to include the rear valance, wheels, suspension, drivetrain...and the interior (as much as we can mod to accomodate. The only real change would be the little bling items that can't be carried over. The build would address every single aspec of the car, stripped to the chasis and built ground up...time line would be complete spring 08.

I would find a 79-86 original V8 car... I wouldn't spend $$$ on someone else's 4 banger project. I can just see too much money being spent on it. Besides I like the red car

step by step to problem being solved.

1.) remove windsheild's
2.) drill rivets on V.I.N tag's
3.) re-rivet tags on oppostie cars.
4.)apply for tag
