I'm quickly turning into a Silva fan.
How could you not have been already? I dont mean it offensively, but consider Anderson Silva himself. His type of character is what the sport needs. Someone that is very good at what he does, charasmatic and diplomatic to the sport. When you watch the cards hes on, he doesnt talk **** to his opponents before or after, he praises them. It brings honor to the sport.
There arent many other fighters out there with enough respect, maybe not for their opponents but for the sport itself. You have guys like Georges St. Pierre, Randy Couture, Andrei Arlovski (this one may seem weird, but watch the post fight interview after he beat Jake O'Brien. Andrei's style is flash knock outs, you think when he was on top he couldnt have done it with one or two big hits? He said I knew I had the fight won at that point, and also knew Jake just got out of back surgery so I didnt want to hurt him.) even Chuck Liddell.
Guys like Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, Ed Herman, Melvin Guillard and the list goes on and on and on, should get a spanking just for their behaviour. When your at that calibre, and on that bright of stage, you should have more class for your opponent and for the sport, because without either, you're without a job. Give back to what you take so much from.
Apart from Silva's attitude, and I like to form my own opinions, not form them based on newsletters or MMA websites, but if you've followed Martial Arts through your life, its amazing watching him fight. Picture perfect strikes, generated not from the limb but through the body, technique over muscle, and his footwork and head movement should be envied by all fighters.
The sad thing about Silva is, he still doesnt get the credibility he deserves, even being considered the best pound for pound. People act astonished when they see him. When they brought him in against leben and were shocked at how he did. Watch him back in the days of Meca fighting Championships, or the Cage Rage. His actions were no less impressive yet they are often forgotten, as if one day he woke up and became the prodigal son of MMA.
Sorry, I rambled a lot. haha. I dont post often on Stangnet, I tend to lurk. I guess I need the right topic to feel the need to post.
