Ummm.....tire question

What backspacing and wheel size would I need to get this 275/50/15 to work on my 65? According to this thing its actually about a 1/4 shorter than the 235/60/15s I'm running now. I'm thinking I would need an 8 inch rim with about 4" of backspacing? I want it tucked in as far as possible with out rubbing the spring. I have racing shackles so that SHOULD allow me to have it stick out of the wheel well a little with out rubbing during accelerations.

Will this work or am I dreaming?

between fenderlip and inside wheel well? My tire does not sit up in there but rather below the lip about 1.5 inches due to the shackles moveing them down. I figure I'm dreaming and stuck with the 235s huh?

i dont know the differance but i fit 255/60r15's on the back and 235/60R14's on the front my 73 and i like the look, and i think i can even go a little bigger on the back when i get new leafs for it, but i dont know the diff in back space between the two years(dout this helps any but if it dose great)

I think it is quite possible as Iskwezm indicated. You will, IMO, have to roll your rear quarters. You definitely need 4.75" or 5" backspacing. As Iskwezm also said, I think 5" backspacing will probably work, but I can't say that with certainty.
I rolled my rear fenders, and I'm currently (notice I said currently; 17's and/or 18's are planned) running a BFG Radial 265/50-15 on an 8" Centerline Billet Star wheel. I do have some rubbing over really serious bumps, but there are reasons for that rubbing. First, when I rolled the fenders, I also installed a Lincoln Versailles 9" rearend, which is 1/2" wider on each side and effectively gave me 4.25" backspacing. Second, I'm running reverse eye five leaf springs, so my ride height is pretty low. Accordingly, I think 275's will be fine with rolled quarters, the right back spacing, and the proper ride height for what you're trying to do.

I have the 1 1/2 lowered leafs that are about 20 years old that my dad put on the car and I cant tell if their sagging or not,but if I had 1/2" more height i think it would be fine,it barely rubs now.

275/50/15 is a 10" wide tire on an 8" rim, so you have a little sidewall bubble. it does look cool though, i used to run nitto and BFG drag radials that size on my stang with my 67 with 4 1/4" backspacing but on a shorter rear end.

As far as I can tell welds only come in 4.5 and 5.5 backspacing for 15" So now I'm looking at other wheels. These need to be light weight drag wheels as I plan on haveing 17x8 Hopsters in the future for the street. Anybody have any ideas?

Also anybody know of a place that will test fit wheels and tires?
