unaligned body seems. anyone else have this?

I have a 2004 gt and i recently noticed that the body seems dont seem to be on perfectly. For example the gap on the bottom of the pass door and side skirt is about 1/4 inch. The drivers side is definitely more then 1/4 inch. the seem on the door and the front fender doesn't line up either. it looks like the drivers door has to be moved down slightly for the seem to line up and the pass door has to be moved up slightly to get that side to line up. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem with the ford quality control.

Yep. Uh-huh. Wang-O. I have the same issues. My fenders do not sit flush with the doors when looking down from the top, the gap between fender and windshield is different on each side, my hood scoop is about to fall off, and my passenger side ground skirt is barely hanging on. Poor quality isn't just a F-Body trademark. Look at the Fox body Mustang's....those are worse than the SN95's by ten-fold. The 94-04 cars are built better than some, but QC is still something American auto workers haven't figured out. Building cars gets in the way of their meetings and strikes.

You can spend the time and money getting it right. Just look at Mity's car. His is the spitting image of perfection.

Ever since my front end was fixed, the hood likes to bounce at high speeds by the passenger hinge. Never could figure that one out.

Does anyone's windows roll too far up? Mine do, and if they are all the way up and I close the door, it will hit the molding above the door.

Also, it's 'seams', not 'seems'.

No one can give you an exact answer, these cars came from the factory with the chassis all screwed up, it is the same way with the rear of the car when you will do adjustments to it. Alignment issues with certain drops, Springs will have different drop heights, panhard and swaybars will touch or have space between the mounting points etc..

There was some rumors running the net/other Mustang boads about the factory jig used to assemble the cars being worn out, resulting in some sloppy seams/body lines on the passenger side of the 04 cars, and Ford didn't replace the jig because they were getting ready to crank up the S197 production at a new plant

I have an 04 GT, and my passenger side fender doesn't match up to the lines on the door real well.

They had to cover the costs of the Five Hundred and building those supercar GT's. The GT cost like what, triple the sale price to build if you added the R&D costs in? I know the Five Hundred was a waste.

My 2002 V6 Mustang has a passenger side headlight unit which has a gap with the front pointed part of the front fender. This occurred after I got my front bumper reconditioned/repaired and the front right bumper shock absorber pulled out from a hit and run which happened to my car. The front of the bumper was pushed in about 1" inch only in the area underneath the hood in the area which is located next to the honeycomb grill on the passenger side.
The gap between the headlight assembly and the front pointed part of the front fender has been like this ever since I got my car back from the body shop. They did a decent repair job, but they were never able to get that passenger side headlight assembly "flush" with the front pointed part of the fender like it used to be before the repair. I think that this is caused because the body shop may have pulled out the bumper shock absorber on the passenger side out too much. That's the ONLY thing that I can think of which would be causing this gap problem. The header panel behind the grill and front bumper is fine by the way.
Could it be that the bumper shock absorber on the passenger side was pulled out too much by the bodyshop when they did the repair causing the gap in that pointed front area of the front fender with the headlight assembly? What do you guys think?

I'm actually bringing in my car to the body shop thurs to have some alignment issues fixt. Stupid fords just fall apart on you

Hey! I've got one of those '06 500s (company car) and it's built way better than the stangs are IMO. It drives really well and actually, it probably didn't cost to much to engineer as they used engineering either already existing or borrowed for the major components. It uses the same 3.0 duratec 24 valve V-6 that was in the Taurus, tranny from Aisain (6sp. from the Toyota Avalon or CVT from Volvo depending on model) the chassis is from the Volvo S80 with Ford tuning. Problem was that they went from one car line - the Taurus, to two - Fusion and 500 (soon to be renamed Taurus). Not as efficient, unless they sold more of both and they didn't advertise the 500 hardly at all.

Did you ever take the door apart to see if the stop is in place, etc? My 2000's driver door screwed up yesterday & wont close right unless its rolled down some - weird thing about body alignment is the passenger door didnt line up at the top since new but when I was looking yesterday it appears to be up to where it should be now! Maybe it got slammed enough times to move back to where it should be????

Yes I DID notice the post date - just because the thread was started a year or so ago doesnt make it irrelevant does it? If thats the thinking the the forum owners should save disk space & dump everything over a certain age like they do over at mustangworld.com which I think sux
