Today I was installing new headlights and I found a metal ID tag on the driver's side header panel. I never noticed it before and I've never heard anyone discuss about it. I did some searching and couldn't find anything about it. Anyone know anything about decoding it?

That is the body buck tag. I believe it is for identification of the chassis at the factory. It should have alot of the same info as the door sticker, such as vin, body style, etc..

The buck tag, or build plate, has quite a bit more info than the door sticker. It tells the factory all of the options going on the car, the colors and even what dealer ordered it if it is a special order vehicle.

Think of them as car dog tags. They're extra special on SSP cars as they're the end all be all proof that they are/were an SSP. A lot of cars lose them over the years. Some are stapled onto the core support, others are screwed on. Mine were screwed in and i found them when i did my nose swap.

I need to get a good look at mine and compare, I was surprised I found the build sheet years ago.

Thanks for the info, guys. Mine's stapled on and is pretty visible.

Grover,

where did you find your build sheet at?

Mine was stapled too, out of curiosity I googled the date my car was built and it came up as the start of the Rodney King Riots!

My build sheet was stuffed into the botton cushion of the rear seat.
