Unplug iac and set idle with screw?

A friend of mine leaves his iac unplugged and just sets the idle screw to where he wants the idle and then sets the tp to that. other that the check engine light are there any ill effects known to be caused by this.

You dont have cold idle compensation, load compensation (for AC, etc), dashpotting or IAC during a few other situations.

That said, folks in warm climates do it sometimes. I wouldnt unless there was no other fix.
