Upgrade for the GT

So my biggest complaint over the years of owning my mustang has always been the seats. My GT came with the leather seats and in my opinion they are not comfortable, nor do they hold you in place at all. Plus, for racing, they weigh a ton!

Well, today that all changed. Drove about 2 hrs to meet up with a dude selling a set of just about new Corbeau CR-1's. So far, and this is just from test fitting them in the car, I love them. I think they are much more comfortable and damn do they hug you. These are the reg. versions, not the wide, and for anyone wondering, I'm 5'9" @ about 225-230 lbs. I'm definitely on the outer edge of the size of a person that these seats will take.

pretty nice looking and fits your interior well.
i just swapped 99+ leather seats into my 97 mustang , gone from cloth with no power options to leather with full power options and recline... the difference in weight scared me.

The Corbeau's look good.

I think the stock power leather seats are *quite* comfortable (6' and 185 lbs.), but would agree they aren't a "race seat" that holds you in place.

Seriously no offense intended, but I have to ask: You are worried about your seats being "heavy for racing," but you weigh well over 200 pounds yourself. How does that work?

Lol, none taken. It's something I'm working on. I'm actually down to 225 after being 250 just a few months ago...I'm getting there. Plus, the seats weren't purchased only for racing. If they were I would have went with some sort of fixed seat that only weighs like 10 lbs or so. Just the weight factor for when I actually do go.

looks great man... I'd love to have a pair of black leather Corbeau's in my car too. I'm also curious how much less those weigh compared to the stockers?

Stock driver seat with power was around 75-100 is my guess, and the new one is 40-60 I would guess. The passenger is less of a difference obviously. I have a set of TRS's, but I've really needed a new driver seat as my booty has definitely killed all the foam in it.

Those seats look good, I would love to pick up a pair for my stang to add to my list of weight loss reductions.

The stock front seats weight ~48lbs for the driver seat and ~38lbs for the passenger seat. The CR1's weigh in at 27lbs each so a savings of about 32lbs total for both over the stockers.

And yea, what Dark04GT said about the weights of the seats is correct. These new seats are about 27 lbs each, but they are the cloth versions and not the leather.

They power sliders/adjusters weigh 20lbs. You can knock out about 60-70lbs with a good set of racing seats. And if you're racing you really don't need the passenger seat....or the rear seats....or the spare + jack.....or a full tank of fuel....etc. It's not hard to knock a few hundred pounds off of a daily driver for some weekend racing.

Exactly. When i actually go racing all that stuff comes out plus the front sway bar.

Both seats are in the car now and I have a 40 min drive with the car tomorrow so I'll get to see how comfortable they really are.

Corbeaus are very comfortable, even moreso if you got the inflatable lumbar. That is the only thing I wish I bought with mine. Next driver seat I get will most likely have one! Nonetheless they are soo much better than the stockers, especially if yours were worn down like mine were!

Exactly!

So anyways, on Saturday I drove a total of 110 miles with the new seats in the car. This is definitely the most comfortable I have been in this car while driving it. They definitely hug the hell out of you and don't let you move around in the seat at all.

nice choice!

I have the same seats in my Bullitt drove em all the way from SF to LA and my back was no worse for wear than when i did it with the stockers. great seats, they grip really well and they are quite comfortable. be careful getting in though, ive already worn the leather patch on one of the bolsters from getting in and out. ive had the seats for a little over a year now with maybe 15k-20k miles on em in that time. then again i sit pretty close to the wheel so its always a bit of a squeeze getting in and out
