so i have my 3g alt here and i'm wondering what is the best way to run the upgraded 4 gauge power line to the starter. i was thinking through the fender well, then around the front bumper and through the other fender well? sound good? what did you do?

Btw how long cable should I buy… 10 ft?

Longer if you're planning on hiding it.

Or over to the inlet tube (under it), over to the core support, across the radiator support (but underneath it, like how the stock loom is) and beneath the battery and to the solenoid.

I thought about that, but since I dont have hidden wires anyhow, I ran a straight shot to minimize voltage drop and chances for issues.

Good luck.

are you running it to the silenoid(sp) or from the alt to the starter? do you have to run a fuseable link?

i ran my 4 gauge wire from the alt. back to the firewall over behind the intake manifold and down to the starter silo. with a 120 amp fuse inbetween. Used electrical tape to keep the wire in place, worked out pretty well

I ran mine the same way the stock one was, in front of the radiator support, underneath the battery, and to the solenoid. I got 10 feet of 4ga wire, but all I ended up needing was about 9 feet.

LMK if you need any pics...

Also, if you get some nice wire, you won't want to hide it...

Here is a link that Jrichker turned me onto, which has pics of more ornate wire routing (sort of like what I described, IIRC).

Good luck.

Great link...thanks.

I'm a bit confused though...all they do in that link is route the wires the same way the factory ones are? Where are the more ornate wire routing pics?

Just a couple of comments on that site though...

They incorrectly say the main power lead is two 10ga wires spliced to one 10ga lead, which is wrong. It's 10ga to 8ga...but no biggee. I also don't like the fact they used fuseable links instead of a fuse/fuse holder, but that's just me. If you had a fuseable link go on you somewhere, you would be screwed. If you were running a fuse/fuse holder, and had a spare fuse, you could always just switch out the fuse assuming you didn't have soem sort of major problem that caused the fuse to blow.

Just my $.02...
