I have decided on a Detroit Locker to replace my worn out limited slip differenital. While I am at it, I figured why not upgrade from 28 to 31 spline axles. I had new brakes installed when I got my global west suspension and I see from the bill that I had brakes for a small bearing rear axle. However, when looking at new axles at Summit's web site, I don't see any specification for large or small bearing on the axles. Does it not matter? Will I have any fitment issues with respect to my brakes? What do I need to order in addition to new axles, bearings, and seals?

My question is now answered. It turns out that the summit catalog (both in paper and on-line) is limited and does not give me the info I need. These axles can be had in the desired spline and with either large or small bearings. I have found out that 35 spline axles and lockers cost the same as the 31 splined ones so why not go up? As for the clunking sound, I can live with it.

Another thing is that Summit does not list everything that they actually have in stock. A phone call can make a difference.

When I wanted to convert to 31 spline axles, they didn't list them for my 65' but did for 67' and newer. One call and they assured me that they had also had the correct ones in stock. Two days later I was at the strip with my new 31 spline axles installed. :-)
