I am putting my transmission in tomorrow. I just rebuilt it and im 99% sure I did every thing correctly. but I am not able to shift into 5th gear with the car off. I havent stared the car yet but in some other cars you can shift into 5th gear like this. but some people have told me this is normal and It will shift when Im rpming the engine. Help lol!!

Thanks Johnny

spin the output shaft slightly by hand and see if it will go into 5th if not something is wrong and should be fixed before installing and driving....

If should shift into 5th out of the car.

You should be able to get into all 5 gears and reverse with easy. Try rotating the input shaft and then try for 5th gear,

If it still doesn't go, something is installed incorrectly...most likely in the shift rail setup. It's pretty tricky to get right sometimes

fill it up with tranny fluid, When i put mine together it did the same thing, the slider thing that is invovled with O/D gets tricky, its a roller bearing type setup with a swivel on it. Its kind of tricky. Just an idea before you tear it back apart. If its just 5th though, you wont have to take the main shaft apart again if you do have to tear it down. Mine ended up being fine...
